Give them your respect until they no longer deserve it. Be firm, but give them the opportunity to make it right. This happened to me a few years ago with a Volkswagen. EXACT same thing. I picked up the car for a routine oil change and on the way home I stopped for something. When I came out I noticed the rocker panels were effed up. I immediately called the service manager telling him I'm on my way back to the service department. The moment he looked at it he knew they screwed it bad. My car was in the shop for almost three weeks on their dime until it came back to my satisfaction.
Thank you so much for your response. I understand and this is kind of what I'm now expecting.

Someone earlier questioned what the recall was. It was in for water intrusion into the fan control module. They have to replace wiring.

Was it just the one side? I too had this happen. They fixed it.

It was all 4 corners of the car. How much was involved, repaired, replaced, and any idea of the cost?

I'm thinking at the very least they will have to replace the rocker panels + paint.

If the car rests solely on the intended mounting points, albeit improperly...then yeah - the structure is probably fine. The body panels are f'd, and there's a chance the pinch welds might be rolled over...

If they used pads, but put them in the wrong spot underneath...then it could have buckled a portion of the unibody. We don't know the liklihood, but it IS a chance...
Agreed 100% on this assessment. Likely "only" body and paint work is needed, but no way to know for sure just from these pics.

Kudos to GTIanZ28 for spotting the damage and getting pics. I am going to print out these photos and keep them in my trunk along with the jack pads, making sure that any service writer understands what the jack pads are for and what they're in for if they lift it incorrectly.

Just got a call from the dealership. They said that their body shop would fix any damage present and that they would call me when it's ready.

I told them that I did not want their body shop doing any work to my car - they can inspect it and advise. Told them that I would take the vehicle to my own body shop to assess whatever damage may have occurred.

When I was a Saab mechanic back in the 90's we had blocks of different sizes to fit under to prevent stuff like this. Most lifts also have adjustable feet to raise but it depends on how low the car sits.

There is NO excuse for the mechanic to do this except he is not trained. I don't care if it's a 2K car or a 200K car, you respect it. That's what I was taught as a mechanic.

It's my car. They damaged it. Why can't I have my own estimate done at an unaffiliated shop?

If you file through insurance, you can (depending on the State, I think).

If you opt to have them just pay for the repair bill - this will likely be an agreement you'll have to come to with the dealer. It may be that they wish to keep the repairs in house so it's cheaper for them.

Its his car and he can take it anywhere to have it estimated and repaired.

However, the dealership should make it easier to get it done with them if they have a body shop since it would be easier for them to eat the cost.
