Losing connection from vehicle to the key FOB while vehicle is in motion can`t happen, or can it?

Yes, it could do that.

But it won't cause your car to shut off, it that is what your getting at.

Once the engine is running, the FOB is no longer needed to operate the vehicle.
But if you shut the engine down without an active FOB present, you won't be able to start the engine again.

Thanks for the heads up. Better to know ahead of time.

are the occurrences of this happening always after visiting a store of some kind (it seems to me most of the posts I'm reading occur this way)?

Does it happen at home?

I'm wondering if this is due to some sort of EMI from a store's WIFI, or automatic doors or any one of a hundred various wireless systems that a store might have.

what frequency do these FOB's operate under? 315Mhz?

just a thought.

found this: not exactly the same but interesting:

Quote:
...With the consent of the bar's owner, he determined a light-control panel used by a DJ was the source of the interference that rendered key fobs useless. The panel was designed to send out intermittent signals but somehow transmitted a continuous stream of data on the same bandwidth used by some fobs.

Key fobs trigger signals on two bandwidths: 315 mHz and 434 mHz, which in turn activate microprocessors unique to each vehicle. Only fobs operating on the former bandwidth were jammed by signals from the light-control panel, despite Federal Communications Commission regulations that require short-range devices to operate intermittently.

The jamming signals traveled only a short distance. When vehicles were pushed or towed a few blocks away, the key fobs operated normally. At first, car owners besieged a local hardware store in search of new batteries for their remote fobs, but replacing the batteries didn't help.

Maxson says motorists who encounter similar difficulties can try holding fobs close to the antenna that transfers signals to the door locks. It's usually located near the radio antenna. That could help override jamming signals on the bandwidth used by the fobs, he says.

Mine happened at home, pulled into garage, shut car off, had to pull out again immediately thereafter the fob lost communication. I also notice that when pressing the trunk button on the fob, it is slow to respond and needs several presses before the lid pops up.

what brand garage door opener do you have? They also run at 315Mhz.

This is just really weird that so many are having issues, but nothing from GM?

What is the actual number?

There are a few in this thread, but most of them are posting more than once.
So, the real number is hard to extract. But I imagine not very many at all.

Not Camaro specific, but last year at home my wife's Cadillac, my Silverado, my neighbor's Traverse all had the key fobs just stop working.
I could open with the key and start with the key in my truck since its not a button start. But my wife's Caddy is a button and it was driving her nuts. If i drove a few blocks away, my fob would work again.
So I actually drove around my neighborhood hitting my door lock button on the fob and found that when i was in about a 9 house radius near my home. The fobs stopped working.
Had to get in touch with the FCC and they have an online form to fill out about interference. They sent a guy in a van with some fancy equipment to scan around my neighborhood. So they found a guy the next block over that was building some "radio equipment" that was putting out so much interference. The FCC guy was amazed any of our electronics were working at all.

I think the department was called Spectrum Enforcement.

I've had issues with my fob too. I noticed that it stopped locking/unlocking the doors. Coincidentally, my USB port stopped working at the same time.

I just removed the negative battery cable for around 30 minutes and it fixed it. I guess this resets the BCM or whatever, dunno.

My 3 month old SS 1LE did this to me. I got out of the car at a fitness club after running some errands (donuts and starbucks, perfect balance). When I went to lock the car it didn't accept the handle button, then I tried the fob, then I pried the handle lock piece off to test lock/unlock before getting in the car and getting the cup holder alert. Pissed me off bc I was in a rush and scratched the underside of the handle so now I have a little reminder.

Hopefully there is a fix soon bc this is ridiculous and making me want to dump my car and go German again (so what if the GT3 motors were catching fire when they came out hahaha)

My 2017 ZL1 just did the key fob fail today. I was leaving for work car would not start with either fob. I left work early today made it home and tested, and magically it started. This is the first occurrence for me.

Okay. I decided to make a detailed post about this. I had this exact same thing happen to me two days ago right after I got home on my 2017 Camaro 1LT

I HAVE NO OTHER ELECTRONICS IN MY CAR BESIDES WHAT CAME FACTORY. NO RADAR DETECTOR, NO GARAGE DOOR OPENER, ONLY MY CELL PHONE WHICH IS RUNNING ANDROID AUTO AND PLUGGED INTO THE CAR NEAR SITTING IN THE CUP HOLDER.

I pulled into my driveway
I put the car in park
I enaged the parking brake
I tried to turn the car off, when I pressed the button, nothing happened. I waited then pressed it again...still NOTHING...The car would not shut OFF...waited a moment and suddenly without me doing anything it finally shuts off.
I was baffled by the above then I got a message on the display saying it didn't detect a key. I tried to start it...nothing. I tried to unlock and lock with my fob...still nothing.
I called road side in preparation to have my car towed and they told me about the cup holder. I put the key in the rear cup holder and it started up but I still could not use the fob to lock or unlock the doors.
I drove it to the dealer and they said there was a technical service bulletin out to replace the door sensor so they did that and it worked again..So far the issue hasn't repeated but that's what I experienced.
