There are a lot of misconceptions about synthetic oil! I am sure that you would not want to hear that I ran Amsoil 0w-30 Signature for 18,000 to 20,000 miles in a 2005 GTO. Changed the oil filter at the half way point and did a lot of highway miles. This is the LS 2 engine. Bought it brand new, changed the oil at 2,700 and then thereafter went the distance. At 143,000 miles it did not use a drop of oil when I traded it off for the Camaro. Synthetic oil responds to byproducts of combustion much differently than dino oil. Synthetic burns at a higher temperature and the shear strength is much greater. The detergents in synthetic make it appear dirty; it is doing a great job. One researcher concluded that the longer you run synthetic the better it gets. That is just one. In other words, to apply standards for regular oil to synthetic, well, do your research!
Come on now, you are talking/thinking irrationally and going against old school and feel good oil change intervals. Shame on you.

Now with the Camaro V6 I moved up to 4,500 - 5,000 and I think I am going to back it back down. I don't like the look of the oil when it comes out.
Looks, feel and smell mean didly poo. I had 27,600 miles on this oil. Guess what? It was well within contaminate specs and could have been run longer. Analyzing your oil doesn't lie.

Once a year or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Every 5K. In the old days of straight dino oil I was a 3K guy right to the core, but the new synthetics are enough better to make 5K with no problems.

When I feel like it, or when it gets dirty looking.

I don't pay attention to miles.

So thinking that way, changing oil every 1000 mile would be taking care of your car better?

Changing oil sooner and often will keep the inside cleaner, but does not do much in making it last longer. Changing more often will never hurt it.

I have a question that I couldn't really find for some reason. I just bought my 2013 SS and had a question about the oil. I understand that the car came from the factory with a break-in oil? I read the manual and it does say that a synthetic blend is recommended for the car. I haven't driven the car much but when I do happen to run low on oil should I just put in a synthetic blend of a different brand? I hear that the car comes with mobile 1 but I could not find a synthetic BLEND other than high mileage which this car is not.

So when it comes time to put in a little bit of oil to top her off properly which oil do should I go with? I know Castrol has this

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=186722_0_0_

but then again it isn't mobil 1.
