Almost as bad as the congressman who said an AR-15 could empty a 30 rd magazine in 1/2 second.. 3600 rds a minute. Gee, who could reload that fast and how long would the barrel last before it melted.

Thought I would ask for opinions... I have a G26, great, fun, easy to carry. Now I want something with a longer barrel for the range. Thoughts? I want something with a 5" barrel (or close) and 9mm caliber.

Sig 226 - next best 9mm to a 1911.

Les Baer Premier II in 9mm with the 1.5" accuracy guarantee. Sorry for the crappy pic, and overall look but this Baer has seen lots of USPSA practice matches and will be refinished in the next couple years. Or a nice STI Trojan in 9mm for half the price.

G17 (4.48" barrel) or G34 (5.31" barrel), Both are 9mm. Get a 17L! 6.02" barrel

I've never been a Glock fan. For me, SIG or H&K.

Ditto. Nothing against the gun, it just never tickled my testicals. I am now a Walther fan though. Nice gun if you can afford the $600 price tag. The way i saw it though was, how much is my life worth?

1911s are great target guns. The trigger pull is straight back so it's easier to shoot a 1911 well. Plus, the steel frame helps absorb recoil. The polymer guns tend to roll back more because the top end is so much heavier.

Not only for the increased accuracy and comfort of shooting though. IMO along with a few others, the 1911 is the greatest combat handgun ever made.

I shoot my 1911's against almost every other type of handgun and compete with them consitantly. Even against the high capacity limited division and open division optic/compensated 2011's, where the 1911 is at a obvious disadvantage, half the round capacity, open sights and much greater recoil to deal with.
