8 speed adds about 1, one, yes a single mpg. So don't all get WOW what incredible MPG it should get with an 8 speed.

In the end, most vehicles are already tuned with an optimized final drive ratio. Having two more gears just helps in the gears along the way. You can go slightly shorter for a "peppier" feel in first and slightly longer in 8th to leg it out a bit knowing the shift to 7th isn't so bad. An 8 speed won't turn a car running 2,500 on the highway to 1,500.

And based on the old transmission numbering, I doubt they will get the 8L90. That is too much money to put behind a V6. The SS may get it, but even the LT1 doesn't need that much strength.

And keep in mind the CTS already has an 8 speed. It is behind the TT V6. If it gets the 8L90 that smells of CTS-V to me.

So they may all get 8 speeds, it just may not be the 8L90. You don't need a transmission that can take the power and torque of the LT4 sitting behind a 330 HP V6.

I agree about the 1 mpg thing, but I'm just excited to hear the news more than anything. More gears means more chances to be in optimal power range and also it should also help save on mpg across the board. Now there should be a slightly higher gear to choose from when lugging up an incline on the highway, or shifting into 2nd and 3rd can happen sooner in the city, thus saving a small amount there as well.

As I said before, I'd be shocked to see the 8L90 go into all of those vehicles....I can see more versions coming, like an 8L80 and an 8L50 or something like that. I just don't know what the differences would be between them, aside from tuning for vehicle specific applications, and toughness. Would, say the "8L50" just have less tough materials to make it cheaper and lighter?

But think about it, if all of the 8-speeds were 8L90's yah sure in some applications it might be over kill but the parts would be a fine a dozen across the board with just minor differences in maybe the tail housing and bell housing

Again, that would be surprising to me, but we can hope.

spent an hr on Chevy page looking at Colorado. I liked the blue black seat covers. I was surprised at 16 and 17 inch tires. Its got decent options. when do they hit the dealers? its definitely a 4x4!

Should be hitting dealers over the next few weeks to a month.

I need a truck badly. There are days when I feel that I should have got the ford Raptor I was looking at instead of my SS. Truth is I rather just buy a 4x4 Ford ranger than either of these. both the designs don't quite do it for me. the price is right at 19500 but I'm not feeling either one. The side profile and the bed just don't look right on these. Hate this European design.

A truck is a necessity but just don't see either of these (canyon or colorado) being worth it over a used f150, silverado or dirt cheap ranger

That's insane. I just need to get my Camaro paid off in the next year and I'll be in a turbo diesel Colorado
