Petrol head... I still havnt used them. But they also have wheel blocks that you can put under the tires. I am thinking about getting 2 so I can pull up on the ramps then jack the rear and put it down on the blocks.
Ive used hard plastic ramps in the past. It was a good way to change the oil but they would slide sometimes. And the lip on the old ones was small compared to the Race Ramps. Ill have to see how it is with the manual getting up and stopping in the right place. There is definitely room for disaster there. I bought the ramps from a Forum member that was 45 minutes from my house. I kind of feel like they are too expensive at full price. But I actually had a kid back in High School who killed himself working under a car with a jack... No stands though. Im thinking that could be a slow death and the whole time you have to lay there suffering thinking about what a jerkoff you were...
Someone above said the lowest guy on the totem pole changes the oil at the dealership... And Im sure thats true. But the guys working at WM coudnt get a job at a dealership. Its not the lowest experiences MECHANIC... its just some guy they hired for cheap who was willing to do that for the money they pay. That aint no mechanic.
Also there are plenty of ways to screw up an oil change.
Put in the wrong oil.
Put in too much or too little.
Over tighten the filter or drain plug.
Strip the drain plug... and not say anything because they are scared.
Strip your oil pan threads.
Cut your seat with the screw driver serving no purpose in their back pocket.
I could go on.. but the guy whos radio was removed free of charge takes the cake.
I grew up with one of my closest life long friends as my mechanic. He taught me a lot and I owned tractor trailers and machinery over the years and if I had to pay mechanics to do things I could do I would have gone broke. But there is a limit. I always find a guy I can trust in my area. Other than my friend Ive really only had 3 or 4 guys I actually trusted. But they are around. It takes a bit and they need to learn that they cant BS you. They wont be selling any shuffle bushings or muffler bearings. And if they dont grease what needs to be greased Ill know and they are finished.
These lube and filter changes and grease when possible make the difference in longevity and how things feel as they age. You need to know its being done properly.

20,400 miles. I bought it used end of last Sept but from the Carfax it appears the owner did the proper maintenance. Not until the last 3 months I've started to drive it more. The previous owner did take it to Valvoline once though 2 years ago so they must have not messed up cause the engine is fine.

Oil life is at 37 percent, BUT in my Mustang I never liked it getting below 35 percent oil life. Yes, I know these modern cars go a lot longer in between oil changes but I'm anal about it. I know in My Mustang once I let it get to 25 percent where it reminds you to change the oil soon and it just bugged the sh** out of me until I got the oil changed.

But if I go to the Chevy dealer I can have them do the TSB for the A8 right? Are they still covering that TSB for the tranny fluid?

I bought a length of it (a couple of them actually) from the "damaged" pile at a discount. I believe that I ended up with a total of 12 18" lengths of 2x10, some of them screwed together in pairs (for height), and some are single. I can stack them and arrange them much like a set of "ramps" (drive onto a single thickness first then a double thickness) for things like oil changes.

In the early days of the 6th gen with the switch from the LS3 in the 5th gen to the LT1 in the 6th gen, even dealers were not putting enough oil in them. There were stories of people checking their oil after getting it changed and it was at least 2 quarts low (the LS3 has an 8 qt capacity, LT1 10 qt).

That's why for anything but absolutely essential warranty work, I would never let anyone but me touch anything under the hood or between the wheels.

Yup... for sure. Theres a new thread in here right now where a guy needed something done that required the dash be pulled. He got his perfect car back with a bunch of gouges in the dash. They tried to fix it with something that looks like shoe polish in the pics and wiped right of on his rag... After fighting with them they finally agreed to replace the panels... only to get 3 sets in that were also scratched.
Just really pathetic. Disgusting. I would be embarrassed to be such a total disgrace.

Yea, saw the original thread a few months ago. Not shocking about some dealers at all. Only good thing about a dealer or a big box place is if they F your car up you might have more recourse.

It’s an oil change not a tune up. I take oil and filter of my choice and they do the work.

Zero issues

This right here. Everyone seems to be an expert when changing their own oil except those that does oil change everyday.

but even the dealers can do mistakes. I posted about my dad's sonata and how they didn't screw the oil filter all the way and nearly was a disaster.

The one another poster posted about walmart putting coolant instead of oil was very likely a disgruntled employee who did it on purpose.

Look at some of the C8 Corvettes being totaled because they're not being put on the lifts correctly at the Chevy dealers.

I see dealers and big box places like big Chain restaurants. Hit or miss.

Big difference: you care. They don’t.

I always come back to, if I screw something up, I'm buying the engine. If a service place screws something up, they're buying the engine.

These aren't such special cars that places can't do oil changes on them like every other car. Sure, you'll get some that screw something up, but that's only a few across thousands of users on this site, in whatever state. People make mistakes, but when there's a big company behind them, their mistake gets paid for.

I'd be willing to bet that at least as many individuals have screwed up on their own car. They just aren't as willing to tell people about it. Who's to say you don't screw something up because you're in a rush or something distracts you.

You make good points but for me this is the most special car I’ve ver owned. Also tasks like oil changes can be meditative and rewarding. I get it though, everyone’s different.
