It is actually pretty good which is probably why HP gains are minimal with aftermarket. Some cut the entire bottom out of the OE box for more air flow and that seems to work very well too.
I've tried a cut bottom OEM box. Can't say it made a noticeable performance gain. It did give more blower whine but it also caused higher IATS when stopped at a traffic light.

I broke off one of the posts removing the box from the car and was forced to go back to an uncut bottom.

I removed the snow/rain blocker almost a year ago. As another member stated, removal seems to allow the engine to build boost faster. This gives my ZL1 a little more low-end grunt and some ram-air effects above 60 mph. IATs also seem to recover quicker from a stop.

One of my buddies had his bottom cut out and mentioned the blower whine but I don't think he was monitoring IATs. I probably need to remove the rain/snow blocker too.

If your Camaro isn't your primary mode of transportation, it's a worthwhile mod in my opinion.

I thought about doing that mod before I got the FB but since mine is sort of a daily driver, shares days of the week with my truck, maybe pass on taking the blocker off.

Other than hitting the track... a Sunday drive is about it for this car.

Since I already have Roto-Fab will this still help?

Here's a good post with pics if anyone was interested.

No need to remove for dealer work, prior to getting an oil change after CAI install I checked with my service dealer in Northridge (Rydell Chevrolet) and asked if they'd report presence of a CAI under the hood and they said no.

When I smog it after 8 years ownership, and I bet I wont still own it then, I'll remove the CAI. If I sell after 4 years (2 more), I have to smog it but I'll be removing all mods (RF CAI, Katech PTB and BMR rear suspension) before that. I'll never get it tuned.

For some reason the older I get the more I hate DIY installs. After looking at the box from Rotofab for 3 months finally tackled the install today. My observations are as follows:

1. Watching the video on their web site and tackling the install is much easier than reading the instructions.

2. PITA to get all the silicone "tubes" on and lined up. So I lifted the box out of rubber grommets and fitted all the sections together then pressed the box back into the grommets. Easy peasy.

3. There are some that dont believe in these on stock cars but I'll argue that forever. Whine and noise level both increased as well as throttle response. Maybe it doesnt make the car quicker but it sure feels like it does.

4. Money well spent.
