Here are his own words about that day...."Bill Wise, Camaro performance engineer, General Motors: It kind of fell to me to drive [the ZL1 1LE] by default. I don’t want to say that like it’s a bad thing. It was a mixture of comfort level in the car and maybe a little bit of a reward for a year and a half of work. That’s the fastest lap we have video of, but it’s not the fastest lap we ran while we were there. I did a 7:15 from a dead stop. If we take out the dead stop, which is about two and a half to three seconds, on the last day, we essentially ran a 7:13. But that was during [Industry] Pool, so we weren’t allowed to run video. We posted the fastest one we can back up with video"...

I read that too - always wondered if no recording equipment was there how did they know the time? And if they know the time there must have been some record?

Yeah, we all knew they ran a faster time. I had this conversation with Al but didn't get into how they recorded it. PDR is possible but I'm sure they had plenty of timing equipment installed but it didn't meat all the requirements. It also costs GM a lot of $$ to get published times like this.

The ZL1 1LE Nürburgring video shows a timer that looks like a Racelogic unit on top of the infotainment screen.

I still watch that video on occasion and haven't ceased to marvel. My pants, had I ridden shotgun with him, would probably be soiled after the fourth or fifth turn at that level of skill and dare.

Right? The fact that they accomplished the time in a proper manual is astounding. Meanwhile all other cars (with the exception of the Viper ACR) accomplished their times with a Dual Clutch / Auto and Rear Wheel Steer in some cases.

Been working remote for nearly 6yrs. No daily commute. SS is is my weekend/fun ride. A 1LE would have cost me around $7K more for something I'll never track, isn't quicker and would cost me more for tires. No thanks. And the SS handles awesome on the street and the A10 absolutely rips.

I also think the 1LE's look a lot better too. The SS 1LE probably has the best looking wheel on the market, the stance looks amazing and the ZL1 1LE just looks insane all together. Its hard to argue that point, enjoy what you have, you will usually think what ever you own is the best.

Not paying $7K for that. It'd be one thing if those looks included a power upgrade. But agree the SS 1LE looks great. But I think the ZL1 looks the best. To me the ZL1 1LE looks way too boy racer to me.

Passion & enthusiasm related to the with-or-without 1LE option is the perfect example showing that GM's marketing & engineering teams really hit a home-run with the separate 1LE option package. Imagine if the ZL1 was available one-way-only and there was no separate 1LE option package?

So I have a question and not that I'm wanting to do this or anything but since we are on the topic...since both the ZL1 and the ZL11LE are on built on the same platform, cant you just get the mag ride set up from a donor car and put it into a ZLE? All you would need is the magride shocks/springs, ZL1 ECM and magride control module. Slightly used magride shocks and springs ive seen for about $700. ECM and magride control module about $600. then theres just labor. If your Z is out of warranty then who cares which ECM you have in it right? It will still be a ZL1 ECM and all still cheaper than making a ZL1 into a ZLE. Or am i missing something here?

Could you? Sure. But why would you? If the ride isn’t to your liking, just buy a ZL1 w/out the 1LE package and you’re good to go with a lot less headache.

Not saying i would. Just referencing those who already has a ZLE and dont like the ride or who wants the ride quality of a ZL1 but likes the looks of the ZLE. I've read on here that buying OEM parts to clone a ZLE from a ZL1 costs about $10k. Besides, if you already own a ZLE, this would still be less of a headache and more cost effective than selling your ZLE and going out and buying a ZL1.

AGREE!!

To me, the SS 1LE is the best looking Camaro out of all of them. The wheels put many aftermarket ones to shame, the stance and lack of fender gap Front & rear is on point.

Even the C7 Corvette's and thus far C8 Corvette's don't have as great of a stance , especially when it comes to fender gap and not having that tucked in look.

I would agree with you but then again my ZL1 1LE has THE PERFECT stance for me as illustrated below
