Terrific! And all you did was go along for the ride. You had absolutely nothing to do with that 'Best lap ever!'

Shifting is part of the experience of driving, part of the pride in that best lap ever. Miss-time a shift, you run slower. Miss the apex, run slower. Using an automatic is taking the driver out of part of the lap. I just went to the extreme with my example. |

Improve the manual transmission gears. A10 availability ( the A8 is a junk transmission). Probably 100 more hp. The SS 1LE it's a Great Sport car!

Although the ZL1 is faster and the A10 is faster than the 6-speed, It's all at the sacrifice of extra weight. The time saved by having 195 more HP offsets the extra weight. The time saved on gear changes and the improved torque multiplication (extra gears) of the A-10 also offsets the weight sometimes, but not in the video below. What is harder to quantify is the FEEL of a car. Just listen to the Motor Trend Reviews of both the SS 1LE and the ZL1 they refer to the ZL1 as a brute for a reason. They said something along the lines of 'The ZL1 pounds the road into submission, but the SS 1LE dances with the road' Also categorized under the FEEL category is the way the A10 behaves. Marketing claims faster shift times than PDKs what they don't tell you is how that is the mechanical change of gear time, not the paddle pull to gear change time. Again the A10 doesn't FEEL the way a proper dual clutch does, so for the drivers cars (1LE's) they don't offer the Automatics. Now all that being said I would've had no problem if they offered an Automatic. Someone else having an Auto 1LE wouldn't have made my 6-speed 1LE any less fun. I don't really get the way people are offended by certain options being offered on a car. These SS 1LE's although low production numbers aren't "Collectors Cars" to be kept as an investment so in no way does the availability of an Automatic effect the value of the car to me.

A Recaro seat that is more like the one in the Mustang instead of just a seat with "Recaro" stitched on it.
A better rear gear. Maybe 3.91? I'd like to use more than 2 gears on the street. Other than that, the car is perfect. No auto for me.

I'd like it to have 505-550 n/a hp and torque, cooling to handle it if necessary, and adjust the gearing slightly so that, like in the ZL1, it could hit 60 mph without having to shift. Keep it manual only (in keeping with 1LE's across the line as track-bred cars). Should an auto be considered as an option, only the 10-speed. I wish the Recaro's had 1LE badges in them since the 2SS and ZL1's get seat badging. Also, I wish GM would offer a suede dash insert embroidered with "1LE" or "ghosted" like the "FIFTY" in the Fifty Anniversary cars if not equipped as standard. Since my 1LE is 1SS, sometimes I do find myself wishing the stereo system was better (for road trips). Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied with the soundtrack from the exhaust.
Now that I've said all of that above, I plan to pursue some of my ideas in the future. |
