That's true. It is great for putting a second set of wheels and bunch of other stuff on both cars. If RE71R tires are good for AutoX (they're pretty popular for AutoX AFAIK) and can only have one spare wheel/tire, Miata might be fine too. Some people install trailer hitch for a small tire trailer. I will be using RE71Rs for street and mild track use. As I will be towing the car, I have no issue with space.
There are also many offerings for the ND Miata (BBKs, coilovers, FI kits etc) unlike the NC Miata, maybe not as much as FRS/BRZ. Ok, I'll shut up now
