This GT4 car news came out before the ZL1 1LE reveal.....Makes more sense now that they announce it is based on a ZL1 platform/1LE (?) platform.....(Not a Z/28 platform, and they aren't waiting for a Z/28 to go racing with)...

This should interesting. Especially if they use ZL1-1LE suspension and brake components...maybe even some aero...(or aftermarket upgrades)...

Exit speed is key. Everything else being equal, you maintain that speed advantage for the whole straight (in most cases).

This ZL1 ILE will even make slower people much faster. It is likely to give anyone a 3 second improvement (novices even more) since the ILE will feel more planted on the corners and more stable at high speeds.

Even if you are dogging it, you are now likely to be dogging your corners faster since they will feel safer. You will gain speed. You will also be less likely to pull out of full throttle on the straight as your car gets light, because the aero will mean your car wont get very light.

You will likely be faster on a road course with this ZL1 ILE.. even a novice. The real question is not will you or wont you be faster, but rather does a few seconds matter to you at all if you are having fun. I have been out there with beat up Eagle Talons. I can't say that I was having any more fun than that gentleman, even though his car was a piece of sh...t.

I believe the ZL1 will be awesome on the track. It is just that the ZL1 ILE will be awesomerrrr...

Good points for sure. Worthy debate and not one that offends me. I'm no newby to racing and I like to think I hold my own. Since I've stepped into the new ZL1 I've not found a car that can out-turn me. They exist, I know for certain but not in any of the classes they've stuck me in. So maybe that is where the conversation gets interesting. Since I can't mod my Camaro lest I say bubbye to my warranty, I'm stuck in the proverbial point-by land. Al says they'll fix any track day car but he sure doesn't say he'll fix my newly race-modded ZL1 if it breaks down in SCCA. SO there you have it. Buy a ZL1 1LE and it is race ready, just add harness? Met you half way.

But for academics: Here is a video from my track day today. It's a brand new track for me and this was about my 2nd session. The late sessions are still on the SD card in the car so bear with my feeling out and humorous miss-shift on lap one. You honestly think you see 3 seconds? You know, pretending there was a lap in there without 10 passes and point by fails.

(None of the lap timers were working as for some reason GPS was not picking up the track and I'd not been there before)

This car - the 2018 ZL1 1LE - is the current "most track focused and best performing model of Camaro".

The fact that Chevy decided not to call it a "Z/28" because they believe that only a NA car could/should carry that badge - does not change that.

I love my 2015 Z/28.....but it needs 150 more HP to hang with the cars I typically track with. As a result, I was hoping/praying that the reveal at Daytona was going to be the Gen 6 Z/28 AND that it was going to have the LT4.

I love the car they revealed. The fact that it isn't badged Z/28 does not trouble me at all. I expect to own one as soon as I can and have a blast on the track.

At some point...this car too will be surpassed by another even better Camaro. And that is a GOOD thing for those of us that love Camaro's.

I just don't see how an NA version of a Camaro (i.e. Z/28) will be able to top this car unless Chevy gets very, very, very serious about weight reduction.

It will be fun to watch and wait and see what they cook up in a few years!

I'd say you got your wish, and more...This car seems like a monster....lol....Good luck at the track.

This is the car I would buy. Essentially what I built with my 5th Gen Z/LE -- the components of the ZL1, 1LE, and Z/28. Wish they had that in the 5th Gen. I personally think for the guy who wants some creature comforts, Supercharger, and track capabilities, this is the ticket. Can't wait to see what it really does, bet it's a fun car to drive!

Lush is an understatement. With the rain we've had those green areas you see are more like rice paddy's. There were a ton of spin-offs and those cars were buried in mud. Looks pretty though! I have one picture on the PDR that has a rainbow in the frame against the green hills. Absolutely stunning. I'll post it.

I honestly don't know if there is a 'Race' mode. Is there? I know there is 'Track' mode and that's where I tried to stay but GM really screwed the pooch with putting the button right in front of the stick shift. I hit the buttons all day and was in and out of traction control and into snow/ice mode. So annoying.

Look me up when you go and I'll be sure to schedule the track day. I posted another video up of my fastest lap yesterday. It's in the track section:
