I think the real tell tale sign of a Z/28 or not is when the new mid-engined and ZR1 Corvette come out. I suspect the ZR1 will be a bigger blower high HP engine, but many rumors have the mid-engined vette using an N/A power plant. If that happens, we will see it in a Z/28 in the future. Otherwise, I don't think it would happen.

So let's take 3747 (SS 1LE), and subtract 63 lbs...to pretend we put on the DSSV dampers, stopped the rear seats from folding down, and installed lighter glass: 3684 lb theoretical Z/28 with not luxury options, and the lightest weight of engine and suspension components.

3820 (ZL1 1LE) - 3684 (Hyp. Z/28) = 136 lbs. Perhaps we could find 10-15 or so in the base-level speaker system. You'd need to find 64 more lbs to hit your 200 less mark...164 to hit the 300 mark.

CF isn't as expensive as it used to be....but it will be very expensive to use enough to pull 64-164 more pounds out of the car.

But I admit...it would be intriguing to see what a 550 hp naturally aspirated, 3520 lb Camaro could do. I wouldn't be intrigued to pay the price for that, though.

My SS 1LE currently weighs 3665 lbs with kevlar seats, 19" wheels....

3635 lbs when the rear seats come out.

Not sure theres more I could so without getting alot more serious... as you mention DSSV 's and all that....One thing would be taking a page out of the ZL1 1LE and removing the daytime running light strip ( Al O mentioned that saved 7 lbs... not much... BUT that is as nose front as nose weight gets...

I am looking at a moderate engine build to get about 550 Hp from Cunningham Motorsports in a year or two to bring the power to weight ratio close to that of the stock ZL1....

As Bradford mentioned.... a a track car should have SHORTER GEARING!

This would go a LONG way to keeping a naturally aspirated lightweight engine in its power band ....

As it stands I can do most of an autocross circuit in 2nd.... I can down shift to 2nd going highway speeds.... why not use more of those gears for performance instead of CAFE numbers since a track car will be a niche product...

Are the #s you are quoting with a full tank of gas (to be apples to apples with the #s from GM)? Or did you weigh the original parts vs new parts and calculate the new weight?

I weighed the car in original configuartion right after filling up the tank completely... the weigh scale was a block away....

I then weighed original parts vs new parts.

Full tank of gas.

To keep up with the competitive sales market, (Ford GT, Dodge Helicat Et Al), a ZZ572/630hp would be appropriate as a base NA engine, then add 100hp somehow

It's all down to the engine and that's where Corvette has the say.

No matter how good the camaro is, there will always be a Corvette that outperforms it. Might cost an extra 40K + but you can count on Corvette always being the top performing car from GM.

Even though we don't have a ring time for the current Z06/Z07, it still put up a faster lap than the ZL1 1LE at Laguna Seca. I would imagine the rumored ZR1 Corvette would be chasing Viper ACR territory.
