The ZL1 is also lighter than the CTS V and that transmission will make a world of difference. I have seen a stock video of roll on with a Hellcat vs a Z06 and the Z walked away. I think the A10 might be slightly faster than the Z06. I think the ZL1 will be faster than you think and certainly quicker than the Hellcat where it matters. Just my hunch based on reported trap speed numbers of 11.4 1/4 mile at 127mph and it is believed that the ZL1 is even faster than what has been reported.

Motortrend will almost undoubtedly have a shootout of the two vehicles and may even throw a GT-R in there just for the hell of it. We'll know soon enough how well the ZL1 stacks up. Can't wait.

And that 11.4 was on a unprepared surface. the 5th gen they took to a track and did over 800 hard launches to test the durability and get the best time. Is there a reason they didn't do it this time? A surprise coming?

Do we know any of that?

Don't remember reading about an unprepared surface.

All of their cars of similar "genre" typically go through the same sort of testing. clutch dumps, 24-hour track test, etc...I don't think I read anywhere that the car did not undergo drag strip testing.

I will have to look back, I think it was Al O. in one of his commentaries.

*ZL1 performance numbers achieved with a coupe equipped with the available 10-speed automatic transmission and using original-equipment tires on a non-prepped surface.

http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/...08-camaro.html

For the fifth gen they also ran it on DRs to make sure it worked with them and they released a video, haven't seen that for the 6th gen.

That's awesome! I must've missed that little disclaimer.

What's a prepped surface worth in a quarter mile run?

Not sure but it makes you wonder what they might be holding back.

to play devil's advocate...

It may be to the benefit of the ZL1 (in a vs. HC scenario) to go on an unprepped surface...seeing how the ZL1 is lighter and less powerful than HC., but folks who have expertise may have more concrete opinions.

The C7's made zero gains in acceleration when going from A6 to A8. I would not expect much improvement at all going from A8 to A10 in acceleration. Gearing, 0-100 mph is near identical in the A8 and A10. I doubt you'll see more than .1/1 mph gain from 100 to the end of the track.

The reality is that the bigger difference should be seen at the road course with it's improved shifting programming.

The 5th gen was a A6, so you are going from a A6 to a A10. The A10 is also much better at keeping the car in the powerband with little drop in RPMs.

Ugggh sounds like you're regurgitating the sales pitch. Look at the real-life gearing/numbers instead. The C7 made zero acceleration gains going from A6 to A8. The A10 has near ZERO gearing advantage on the A8 up to about 100-120mph. Simple stuff here people.

On top of all that, the LT4 does not love RPM's, so the little drop between gear changes isn't as advantageous as it could be.
