The only reason I am buying this one is the body style. To me with the bulk and the front end it looks more aggressive and badder ass than the vette.

The vette looks a little to much like a comic book hero's car for my taste

I'll try and keep this short and sweet, but I got my '01 Z28 in '07 after I came back from Afghan and loved it. The previous owner babied it, like shifting under or at 2k rpms, driving the speed limit for scavenging mpg's lol. I get my hands on it (27 years old at the time) and drove it hard at times. But still took care of it. Also had winter beaters for that time of year and always had the jones to get it back on the road.
Anyways, the 5 gen appears and never liked the looks, sat in one at a dealership and did not like the lack of view, so never bothered. Then the 1LE is realised with the refresh, that got me hooked, traded in the 4 gen for a '14 1LE and loved it.
Then a few months later I read that the 6 gen is coming out...at first I didn't care, looked at the pictures and videos and thought, "meh my 1LE will be good for years still". Then track times start getting published for the 6 gen SS...I start seeing a few 6 gens on the road, start thinking, that looks nice. I wondered how nice it is up close, so I stopped by a dealer to take a look, the girlfriend said, "it looks meaner then yours". TBH I didn't like that, and she has no clue about cars lol, so the seed was planted. A few months later GM sends me the letter about trade in offer, initially I tossed it out. But after thinking about the remaining balance on the loan I made some phone calls, I could do the trade in and start fresh.
At this time, I haven't even heard the 6 gen up close or drove one. So I decided to take a test drive on one, took a A8 with MRC and NPP. When it started up, it sounded so good. Then I take it for a short drive, maybe 5 minutes, after I left the lot, I stated to notice the MRC, and how smooth the car was. I knew right then I was going to make it happen.
So after almost 2 years on the 5 gen 1LE I was trading in for a 6 gen SS, and I LOVE this car. That's saying something because I'm picky. When I look back at the older cars, I think of the 4 gen as OK, the 5 gen as good, but this 6 gen is great!
Sorry for dragging this out lol, but I could get into more details another time.

LMAO, my girl said the same thing about my Mustang! Yeah, after seeing one for the first time drive by, I was like damn that looks sweet! And I see 5th Gens everywhere.

Not even close to dragging it, I wrote a mini novel for mine lol

I am a Firebird lover who defaulted to a Camaro when my 2002 was on its last leg. My first Camaro was a 2011 RS convertible. Classic midlife crisis red. Loved the car hated not having a backup camera.

I was ready to upgrade and loved the concept of operating the top while moving. Had every intention of getting another RS. No speed demon here. The man in my life talked me into an SS just like he talked me into red instead of burgundy last time.

I determined to get hyperblue with either silver or white stripes. After a failed dealer swap, for a 16, I found a 17 2SS with pretty much everything but kneepads. Way of budget way over the power I need but I love it.

Evolution, and Chevy finally coming out with a blue that I love. This is my third Camaro since the Gen 5 came out in 09(and 6th overall). Started with a 2010 IBM blue, thinking that 306 hp would be enough. I was wrong and upgraded to a 2012 IBM SS in 2012. Never really happy with the shade of blue and when the 2016s rolled out with HyperBlue, I was won over. Having almost paid off my 2012, I had a lot of equity for a trade in. Payments were actually lower, just starting over but well worth it IMO.

My journey to a 6th gen

I was first turned on to Camaros heavily in 1997 when I worked as a lot boy at Ken Wilson Chevrolet in Vestal, NY. I saw a the owner drive a 97 Silver SS and sounded awesome. They must have not inserted the baffles in that one!! After college I bought a 1996 SS and it's been on since then. I totaled that one...oops, but then bought another just like it. I still have that one with just about 28k on it. I didn't need another one by the time they stopped making them and I thought that was it. Since then, I've followed it from 2006 at the Detroit Auto Show reveal and knew I had to have one. I would've bought one much sooner, but couldn't get used to the visibility on the five second test drives I was allotted, and was extremely happy with my current G35 coupe. It wasn't until I started having transmission issues with the G that I started looking hard again. I found a no reserve auction on ebay for a 2011 Convertible LT just around the corner from work. That test drive gave me enough confidence that the visibility could be over come. I lost the auction, but ended up with a 14 SS a few weeks later. That car was great, but it was a 1SS and I missed the stereo out of the G, along with the Xenon lights and leather and sunroof and keyless start. I looked at upgrading all that stuff, but when I saw the '16 prices drop like the stock market in 08, I stopped looking for mods and starting looking for a deal. I convinced myself that because of my current driving situation, that I would settle for the 4T, but needed the RS package, Tech and Sound upgrades and a convertible. That gave me all the stuff I wanted that the 14 SS didn't have. I worked hard for the deal I ended up with, but that's how I got into a 6th gen. There is no regret with the 4T, but I will not be doing that again. It seems more like a nice Chevy convertible, than a muscle car. It will certainly not be my last vehicle, so I will enjoy humming along topless with my Bose stereo and halos leading the way!!

Thumbs up Haven't switched to 6th. Gen... YET

Have had all Gen Camaro's.. since my first, a 67 coupe back in 1972. I've had a number of 67's and 68's,(my favorite year), currently have 67 RS/SS Conv. 396 and a 2011 2LT. I've owned all gen's, 70, 74, 79, 87, 94, 02, 2010-2SS/RS and the 2011 I have now. Looking forward to the 6th. Gen, I know it's quite a step up from the 5th, didn't really like my 10 2SS/RS M6.. thought at the time GM came real close to a nice Camaro.. but missed the mark there. (IMO). Only other model I had back in the day worth mentioning was a 70 Challenger R/T Conv. Sold that way back for $1200! Prices for 6th. Gens on the lot's are pretty good right now with their excess inventory.. hmm.. But i'll always prefer the first gen Camaro's over them all. Ain't nothing like the real thing!

im a VW person

I have owned 10 VW's over the past 35 years.
but since I was Chevy motorhead guy at heart, I have owned 6 chevy's in the past so it was time for me to buy American again and get back to my roots. I ordered the car and it has a 12/5 TPW.
I am also a very practical person, so it was difficult for me to buy a muscle car for a daily driver. I have been researching and looking and reading reviews since Nov 2015. my practical side took over when ordering, I test drove a V-6 as well as a V-8. (loved the V-8). but realized it was too much car for me. so I settled on the 2LT V-6 with 6SP MANUAL, ZN2, NPP. that is the best factory mix since everything else can be modified in the future if necessary.
this would be my second Chevy in the last three years since I have a 2014 Equinox,(wife's car)
so now I'm 100% Chevy again,
first time since 1979. plus this replaces the 2004 Saturn Ion Red Line that my wife wrecked.(that was also her car) that's the red line engine in my profile pic. so now my wife will sit in the back seat in the Camaro, and not touch anything. good thing my wife does not read my posts.

you da man nice 67.
just like me you must kick yourself for all the cars we could have had in the past. all the $1,000 GTO's and $500 442's that we past up, hurts to think about it. i'm also looking at another Nova (68), but its going to cost me 25 K now. owwwwwww

Why didn't I switch to a 6th Gen camaro?

I bought a 2015 1Lt camaro last year February. I test drive all different variants of the SS and was about to pull the trigger on a used 45 anniversary edition instead of getting a new one when I received word that I was going to be doing a lot of traveling. So considering I had a newborn Andy was going to be all over the United States for God knows how long I opted to get the v6. I loved the car and the fuel economy worked for me but I had a few complaints when it came to how well the drive felt. It just felt heavy when I was zipping around curves up in the mountains. I really didn't do research before purchasing; basically I rented one to drive out of town and loved it so I bought one , this being the case I didn't get all the options that were available for comfort and convenience. When I saw the new camaro I told myself I'm gonna get me one in an SS trim but still I was traveling and my car stays parked for a week or 2 at a time and the. I drove about 30 miles and park it again. Well I went to the dealer and told them I wanted a car with this option and that option(Rs and niceness sound system), I needed up with everything except HUD,NPP and memory seat position. Once again I chose the v6 and I have to say it's a lot more fun to drive than the 2015. So I guess my choice was based on style and fun, I love the way the car looks and feels.

Simple reason... lots more power!! I had a nicely configured 2012 GEN5 Camaro RS (V6) Lots of work done to improve overall appearance and performance within reason and budget. But there is no substitude for the performance of a V8. I was sold the moment I heard that the new 2016 Camaro SS would come with the Corvette LT1 engine as standard equipment No regrets now, starting the car every morning and listening to the quad exhaust notes is music to my ears. ( but maybe not so much for the neighbors).

I traded a 13 ZL1 M6 for a 2SS A8. My ZL1 was stock other than a massive HX cooling upgrade and CAI. My first SS pass beat my best ZL1 pass...100% stock

I traded because the SS....

- has everything I loved about the ZL1. MRC, HUD, NPP, fast!
- NA is better than SC. Hot temps brought the ZL1 down. Hence the cooling upgrade.
- A8 that cracks off shifts and that insane performance shift mode. M6 was a bitch in the ZL1
- lighter, smaller more nimble. The gen5 always felt big and wide to me
- interior that is 20x better as is infotainment. The seats are the most comfortable.
- has dual zone, seat preset, heated/ventilated seats, lighting, etc.
- fuel economy average of 21.8 mpg for my total of 6,100 driven so far.

This SS is my daily driver and I think it's the best car I've ever owned. I love the ZL1 too but it was a 2k miles per year car (toy) and I drove a M6 GTO daily. I thought often of using the ZL1 as a driver but the economics suck (fuel, tires, brakes) and the SS is really the better car.

Great thread and fun to read everyone's stories.

I came out of a C7 Z51 M7 Vette.

The Gen 5 Camaro wasn't close enough for me, not enough chassis sophistication nor enough power and tech.

But I also wasn't using the Vette enough - too much beltway traffic and young family meant I was spending too much time walking past the Vette and getting in my truck.

When I started reading the reviews of the Gen 6 Camaro it looked like the best compromise. Similar performance (Vette will always have the edge, but for road use the Camaro is definitely good enough) - A8 gearbox to cope with traffic and some semblance of rear seats for short outings with the family.

I only did 2,300 in 18 months in the Vette. I loved the car but it wasn't the right car at the right time for me. The Camaro has 90% of the performance and 1,000% more practicality for me and my family.

It was an easy switch.

Of course a limitless bank account and large garage would accommodate both :-)

My friends buddy did the same, trading his 2013 ZL1 M6 for a 6th Gen SS M6. He mentioned that the power was very comparable with a slight edge to the ZL1.. from a roll the ZL1 has the advantage. No regrets from a performance standpoint and with a lighter weight, interior, etc.. he didn't miss the 5th Gen ZL1 at all lol
