For me it will always be an M6 because I want to control the engine speed and can manage mileage more effectively. In a pinch I will just take my 97 Z28 with an auto if necessary. With a 160 thermostat in my 97 my tranny has made 200k miles. Only broken 3 tranny mounts with full redline bang shifting during 1-2 shifts.

I have a similar commute, about 110 miles a day. The last 20 miles is almost all stop and go during the school year depending on how early I leave the house. It doesn't bother me at all having a manual, but all my cars minus two in my life have been stick shift. It actually bothers me a little more not having that control for whatever reason. I almost pulled the impatient move in buying the A8 they had on the lot, but glad I waited for them to deliver what I knew I really wanted.

All that being said, this is YOUR purchase. You need to think hard and decide if going one way over the other is really going to enhance/diminish your experience with the car. Don't let the impatience get to you, especially if you KNOW you'll eventually have the car you want either way.

I too commute roughly 115 miles a day. I have maybe 15 stoplights on the way to work or home which gives me 15 opportunities to have fun thru 1st, 2nd & 3rd. Have you ever been somewhere and saw or heard a muscle car take off hard and run it up through the gears with a manual? That always stirs my soul. Doesn't happen with an automatic. They're just another car with loud pipes.
