I just changed the fluid. There were some metal particles on the drain plug. The noise was still there the first 2 days...but not quite as bad. The noise is now gone (3rd day). As a reminder, I went with part #88862624.

Same here. Clutches are grabbing pretty bad. This is after a new diff was installed. Mobile 1 sucks. I thought the synthetic would be better.

if you look at your diff fluid at 500 miles you will change that metallic black stuff. Ask a gear shop when to change it. they will tell you 500 miles and 1500. After that it will look like new for thousands of miles. Amsoil exceeds the GM spec. With fluids and warranties you just need a fluid that meets the GM specs. Just about all non recycled name brand fluid meet or exceed it. It doesnt have to gave a dexos label on it. dexos is just a scam gm tried to pull on oil companies. They wanted a ridiculous amount of money to put that label on there bottles and makes it sound like you need it.

Is this the part number that reads on your manual? Does it matter if it's a MT6 or an A8 transmission? I really need to know? Thanks.

Mobil 1 doesn't suck, just doesn't contain the friction modifier need to let the clutches slip properly. You can add friction modifier to it - have done this on previous vehicles (800-1000ftlb torque diesel pickups and run em hard with no issues).

No it's not....my manual says to use 88900401 with friction modifier 88900330.
According to the manual...the the V8's (A8 or M6) use the same fluid.

So you just used part #88862624 without friction modifier 88900330? Sorry I just need to make sure because I have 2 quarts of part #88862624 sitting in my garage and if the noise is gone for you like you said then this might be the answer to our problems. Thanks again grampa_ss

Yep. I only used 88862624.

Well, while my '16 2SS was in the shop for the trans line recall, I asked them to look into the rear diff noise. (After sitting overnight, mine will moan through the first few 90 degree corners of the day, until the fluid warms up. No grinding or metallic sounds)

Anyway, the tech called Chevy Technical and is doing some kind of fluid change. He had to leave before I spoke with the Svc Mgr, so we don't know exactly yet what they told him to do in terms of which fluid to use and whether to add friction modifier or anything, but I hope to find out tomorrow, assuming it is ready.

Fingers crossed.
