From a lot of the reviews the fit and finish of the camaro is better than the mustang. People just seem to like the interior layout of the mustang better.

+1. Agreed. The screen on all but the upper packaged Mustangs is very small, making the center stack look outdated (tech wise).

I am trading my 2015 GT Premium in on 2016 2SS. Personal preference for me. Will be my 6th Camaro and was my fourth Mustang. IMO you cant beat the looks of the Camaro and it will have lots of extras that my Mustang does not have. HUD is a big one for me. I liked the digital speedometer on my 2010 SS and the Mustang has useless digital gages fro me as a DD. Also excited about all the extras Chevy is going to offer for the exterior.

Since the Mustang seems to pull as strongly as you expect, the Camaro SSs superior power and ability to round corners at a high rate of speed would probably scare you. Buy the Mustang.
I highly doubt it would scare me. My '06 has 600rwhp with suspension mods and I would probably scare you in it. Been around a long time and been through lots of cars, but I need a decent driver for just going out of town for the weekend or to take the wife out to eat on a Friday or Saturday night. I've got a car that rips already. It's nice to see a 435 hp is considered low on power. The GM/Ford/Dodge wars are good for all of us.

I'm sure the SS is an awesome performer and I intend to experience that here soon. As far as the Mustang goes, both '16 models I drove did 7k rpm shifts just fine on the test drives even though I know some guys experience different issues with noise, notchy shifts and lock out on the Getrag which is German parts and design, but assembled in China. GM has a lot of Chinese goodies too which I do admit is quite a shame. One thing I'm not doing is buying a V6 4-door or foreign car. I want a Mustang or Camaro with a V-8 and some grunt, but I do want to be comfortable in it. Gettin' old, I'll be 50 next September

Have picture of your two rides? I went with the Mustang because it was livelier than the Camaro when I test drove them, but don't think I'd make the same decision now.. Livelier because not as refined.

I'd post pics, but I don't know how. I need my son to be here for that. I don't even have a smart phone yet. I hate phones unless I need to make a call and I'm not real computer oriented. I know-pathetic! I'm an old school mechanic that's not afraid of tearing down anything. Research is my friend. I am special though

I get what you mean by livelier, I prefer a stick axle unless I'm looking to cruise, no burnouts and fishtailing.

Given the reviews...I'd say the Camaro is the most obvious choice in terms of raw numbers. .

Looks are always subjective.

People don't drive numbers. They drive cars. And it's in that car and driver relationship that leads one to truly enjoy a car as opposed to using like an appliance. The numbers are nice to look at, nice to compare, but in the end there's that unseen, often indescribable "something", that has to be present to make someone go from just an operator...to a driver.

Or maybe that's just me.

I completely get that statement. That's why I said I'll let my gut decide.

Per Motortrend:

"Is this the best production ponycar the world has ever seen? Without hesitation, yes. What was interesting to me is that we judge types weren’t talking about the Camaro in relation to the Mustang GT that we brought along as a benchmark. We were talking about future Camaro comparison tests against BMWs, Audis, and AMGs. I’d even throw Porsche into that mix. MacKenzie sums up our feelings: “A revelation. Absolutely world-class sports car performance and dynamics from an American icon. The new Camaro is one of the finest driver’s cars in the world. And that’s before you even talk about the price.”

I would most certainly go with the Camaro.

If it's not GM I would not even think of buying a new vehicle
