Seems the ratios are wide to make use of the powerband. So that definitely won't help it on the strip. But remember the MagneRide does come with a drag mode, so clearly they thought about it.

Yes this. The GT350 is not a drag car it is made for the track. Yes it will be quick in the quarter mile but it will shine at the track.

The comparison between the GT350R and the Z/28 Camaro is going to be an interesting one. With the GT350R having a number of advantages over the Z/28 with the Z/28 having better track day shocks and more torque (481 vs 429).

I predict that the GT350R will come out on top on most tracks though it will be a good battle between the two of them. Though the GT350R is probably 10 times the daily driver when compared to the Z/28 (for those who care about that stuff).

I also think that the 1SS with 8 speed auto will put up a much bigger fight with the standard GT350 then most would have expected (with the GT350 ultimately winning).

I've been saying it for a long long time now. I feel the Z/28 and the GT350R will be close on most tracks, and I still think the Z/28 might possibly carry as much or more speed through the turns, as well as brake just as well, or slightly out brake it.

But the 350R will make up for it with less weight, more power, and a wider power band which should put it on top.

As for the streetability of the two...b/c of the mag ride on the 350R, there is no contest there.

Talking base 350 vs SS with mag ride, the downfall of the SS would likely be the tires compared to the 350 tires. That said, I think all it would take is a better set of rubber to match the base 350 on handling....I believe it will be that good. But again, the SS will suffer in braking (even though it is called "track capable") over time, and has a power deficit.

Oh...and to our good buddy Garagelogic....Hi. How you doing??? We all know you're trolling this thread. Gotta love how you say we all think the SS Camaro is going to run ATS-V times, and that NONE of us are considering the difference in tires, or suspension, or even torque. Except that if you pay attention at all you'd realize we've considered all of those things and the vast majority here are predicting times that are likely a couple tenths slower than the ATS-V. Now run along, and go tell your buddies how silly we all are and that every single one of us believe the SS will run ATS-V times.

Based on the early drives the GT350 engine doesn't really come on until 3,500+ rpms and peak horsepower comes in at 7,500rpms (redline is 8,250rpms). That is 4,750 usable rpms while the LS7 comes in strong at right off of idle so the actual usable powerband is going to be the same. Mix in the fact that the GT350 engine is a lower torque higher revving style engine that is going to shrink that power band a bit through gearing.

I think it is going to be much closer then maybe some of the Ford fans would like to see and will greatly come down to track (same driver) or driver when there are different drivers.

I know the 350 and 350R are made for the track, but if the SS is putting out comparable numbers straight line with a car that will be as about light as the SS, has around 70 more HP than the SS, and is more expensive than the SS; I will take it.

Also as I said before, I think the HiPo Camaros, especially the new Z28 when it is revealed, will blow the 350 and 350R out of the water.

Maybe in a straight line.

But on the track....blowing anything out of the water any more is getting tougher and tougher. The Z/28 and GT350R have super exceptional track performance. These guys are scratching hard core for just another second or two around this track or that track than the competitor. In that respect, I think we are reaching a pinnacle of track performance from these "pony cars". The only leaps I can see at this point, is if Chevy turns the next Z/28 in a Corvette Z06 like car with huge power, but still made for the track. In that same hand, Ford could do the next GT500 the same way, and they would be matched as well. I don't see handling getting much better than the current Z/28 and GT350R, but reduced weight, and more power helps and will certainly make them faster in the straights.

Just my opinion.

A lot of butthurt and excuse making on Mustang forum right now. ATS-V killed the Mustang GT on the lightning lap by Car and Driver by 5-6 seconds.

Showed the posts to a Non model specific car Facebook group I'm in and they can't help but to laugh at the fanboyism.
