I believe you are getting ZL1 gen five performance for under 40 grand.

Sounds reasonable to me.

I'd order an Ss with MRC shocks and call it a day.

Awesome car.

Awesome performance.

Sexy styling.

Its too high. I'm cross shopping. Camaro is definitely not out of the running or anything. But I'm probably not ordering one anymore till they are on the lots and I can actually test drive and compare.

I think 4 years down the road with no price increase this will look like a steal.

The price is simply too high. The 1SS being pretty much 40k, I personally don't feel the increase in performance is going to be enough to justify spending near or above 50k for a fully loaded Camaro.

Next new car will be a Corvette.

I am not saying that I am happy with the announced prices but their strategy appears to be to start high and adjust for market demand with rebates and incentives. The 5th Gen sold amazingly well and was the segment leader for most of its run. GM/Chevrolet saw this and felt, rightly or wrongly that they can charge a premium for the 6th Gen especially when they take into account the additional features/performance. Although I would have liked something that started at a lower price point I take this as a sign of very high confidence from Chevrolet that the performance and features will be well worth it to the buying public.

Also keep in mind if we take Chevrolet’s statements at face value that the weight savings is model for model, then that is 200 lbs savings is WITH all of the new built in content on the 1SS/2SS which is damn impressive if true. All of this frankly costs money and why we are all here discussing this, time will tell if this was a good choice or not.

The 2016 Mustang GT/CS auto (Ford doesn't offer the performance pack for auto in the USA) optioned the way my wife would want it has an MSRP of $45,500.

The 2016 Camaro 2SS per our liking will be around $46,000 but better equipped.

Rumor has it an LT4 powered Camaro is coming. I want to see a stripped down Z28 offered with a NA powered LS7 block destroked with a 4.8L crank and big brakes for well under $40K.

Could someone please explain what we are getting extra over a mustang gt that justifies the higher price? Everything that I think would justified it is an option (e.g., adjustable exhaust, MRC, A8).

Better handling.
Bigger and more powerful engine with newer tech.

MRC option is a huge one, that's amazing tech used by tons of high end car manufactures.

The 8L90 is newer than Fords 6R80, and part of the "newer" generation of automatics. "Better" is subjective, but I would imagine it feels more sporty when you want it to, if it's anything like the ZF unit that's in the new Challengers (which I've test driven). I owned a '12 5.0 GT with the 6R80 and while a good auto, it didn't have the immediacy that I felt in the Scat Pack that made if feel truly "sporty". There was a definite pause when using the manual mode that you get used to, but it takes away from the overall experience. The Dodge (in sport mode) felt immediate and positive, as I'm sure the GM unit will (read some 'vette owners reviews for apples to apples).

The dual 8" LCD displays are pretty damn nice, inclusive of Android Auto / Apple Car-thing (sorry not an Apple guy).

I think the argument can go either way, depending on who is arguing. I feel the price is high, and I'm out waiting either for a used one or a different car.

Based on the price, I feel a decent comparison would be between Mustang GT premium with PP and 1SS with MRC and NPP, both around 39-40k before taxes.

I agree the options may justify the price for the car, but buying all the standard options irrespective of my needs is not justified to me.

Isn't that still a pretty big "maybe"?

I just built a 2015 1SS exactly how I would order it if purchasing one and it came out to 43,230.....for 1SS!! I selected 1LE, RS package, Recaro seats, Mylink Nav, Boston Acoustics and dual mode exhaust and that is it. In light of the fact GM claims the 2016 SS will out handle a 2015 1LE and the 2016 is very well optioned out the door, I think I could get a 1SS the way I want it cheaper than a 2015. Then the cherry on top is superior chassis, lighter weight, more power more torque and an interior that is light years better than the 5th gen.

The same car as above in 2SS trim came to $46,535. Did people forget or just not know how expensive the 5th gens became when you added options or are we making comparisons to 2010 prices?

Exactly this. A 2016 2SS the way I want it is within $1000 of that price. So for a year newer and all the bells and whistles that's an awesome price imo.
