Probably, yes..assuming the rumors of the S650 not being a true clean slate design, the GT500 might be around for just 2020 and 2021 before the Gen 7 Mustang comes out, be it on a modified S550 platform or otherwise.

According to a Ford engineer/insider on one of the Mustang websites it'll be based on the GT350, not the refresh Mustang. The original goal was 800HP, but it sounds like for durability and longevity it'll be closer to 725-750 HP.

If the 5.76lbs/hp is correct, that would put the GT500 between 4176lbs-4320lbs. That would put it as a straight line car, not any kind of track car.

I wonder if it'll be like the Hellcat, teased at "600+ HP"...released with 707.

Ford is teasing with "700+HP" so who knows that the final numbers will be. Other than awesome anyway. Do I think we'll see more than 800? No, but 750 seems likely.

They are breaking shafts at 460hp... just to keep up with the SS. Kitties run on a ten year old chassis.

> 700hp is a different level entirely. They are gonna have to put a lot of coin into that ride.

I for one am done with Ford's dumbass games. They sat here for months making people wait for the 18 GT's numbers. In the meantime every other manufacturer announced the numbers for their cars without all the fanfare. Then Ford finally announce them just to put out a Bullitt a few months later with 15 more hp...why the hell did they not just give the GT 460 hp back in 2015 and then bump it to 475 for 2018? Or why didn't they up the GT to the 475 for 18 and ditch the damn Bullit or make the Bullitt just cosmetic stuff? Even then you have to option and spec the GT a certain way to get one that is actually fast. And now we're supposed to sit around waiting and speculating on the GT500's numbers? Nope. I'm not interested until they officially release the actual numbers. It's like they intentionally do everything in their power to keep the GT underpowered and keep people waiting around and wasting money on bullshit. Guess what. Go to a dealership and pick any Camaro SS off the lot and you got a low 12 sec car. Go to a dealership and buy a ZL1 without ADMs and without all the other bullshit (like having to option in a damn radio etc) and you got a car with Supercar-like performance. Ford plays too many damn head games just to milk people for money.

From what I have heard, and I have some pretty good ties. It is supposed to eclipse the GT35r, and it has been done (at least aesthetically) for quite a while.

It's almost like they're some sort of for-profit entity that is really only in the manufacturing game to keep making more and more profits.

What a ludicrous way to run a business.

Meanwhile Mustang fanboys are gathering tonight doing a huge million man circle jerk celebrating..................shall we say..........cough cough........the next ZL1 slayer..............The Bullitt. Bwahahahahahahahahaha.

I agree. They should of just given the GT that HP bump and let it run with the SS. Instead. Mustang fanboys continue to get arse raped on Youtube vs a 3 yr old, going on 4 yr old Camaro platform.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i c what u did there. haha.

Meanwhile over here in Camaro land we'll continue to have awesome vehicles that will spank the Mustangs.

I wonder how many vendors and tuner shops are gonna buy up Bullitts and take them to the track this time. Maybe now they'll actually finally have an 11 sec Mustang. LOL, NOT!

If it has done that, then why will it be another year at a minimum before it’s in peoples hands? if it’s that good already, then it should be ready this fall. But going off Fords video, I would bet this car will be a 2020MY. That’s a long wait for a car that you say is already beating a 350r.

Some of it may be a game, in garnering anticipation, but some of it is due to the product development cycle and declaring to details that they can be liable (i.e. quoting to fully finalized, production-realistic numbers).

An A10 750-hp, with an updated GT350R package would be a very interesting combination. No need to over power everything with 800+
