I never worry about oil too much EXCEPT when I'm at the track. I ALWAYS run a 50W then. I always ran the Euro 0W-40 off track because it was easy to get. Anyone who uses 5W-30 or 10W-40 will be just fine. You wont blow your engine up because of it. Yea, you'll reduce your cat life but I bet it will still last 80K miles or more. I never had a cat go bad before 100K miles personally.
Just be sure to ready yourself for the crying. Personally, I dont care. |

Oil is oil if you change it often enough, they have to design engine oil for people who refuse to maintain their vehicles and still maintain warranty. I use Amsoil because it’s the most practical accessible oil in my vicinity. I am in the industry of where I have to make everything stupid proof, and it becomes very complicated to make everything stupid proof.

if the car can run 0-40 daily and 15-50 at the track....then 5-40 is totally acceptable...people like to tout manufacturers specs way too often....
my vw gli takes 0-20....the previous gen ran 5-40....the current gen golf r uses 5-30....now why would the golf r with the same engine use 5-30 if the gti/gli are supposed to use 0-20? im glad you asked....it puts out more hp and thus needs a heavier oil to compensate for the heat...same engine...same oil pumps...different turbos and tune...same for the previous gen...same engine...same oil pumps...why does the 18 and older use 5-40? ive actually done about 6 uoa's on different oil weights and brands...and now that im tuned and turbo swapped the manufacturers recommend 0-20 was the worst performing by far....the ONLY reason they are using 0-20 over the previous 5-40 is for efficiency....0w is thinner so the load on the engine is less than a 5-40 oil.... use what brand you want...there are definitely brands that are better than others and have been in the game longer....i wouldnt hesitate for a minute to run 5-40 in my zl1.....jmo....ymmv.... |

I use Amsoil 5W-50 like what the c8 z06 Vette uses after using 0w-40/5w-40. For the first time I actually felt a noticeable difference with the car. Idle is smoother, When beating on the car getting into higher temps the engine just feel healthier at those 6k rpm's.
