Oh wait, in this 100 plus degree time he is also telling the to set their AC's to 78° plus.

In Texas we run ours below 70° Where our Governer dont tell us what to do..
Thermostat set to 80f here. Better than 111f and the savings are nice.

Me and wife are both hot all the time, We set ours at 66° at night, 70° during the day. Yes our electric bill is high, but I cannot sleep at anythjing over 69°
We come in during the day we want our house nice and cool.

What will happen in California when 50% of cars are electric, and the temps are rising due to something I am sure Trump has done to the planet?
Plus no more drilling is allowed??

They will be even more screwed than they already are.

Meanwhile I keep my thermostat set at 74 during the day and 72 at night. It's not hooked up to anything that would allow someone else to determine what I set it on and never will be.

Mine is at 78 during the day and 75 at night, not because any douchebag would have commanded me to set it like that down here in the land of the free, but because a) I grew up poor and have no qualms about teaching my kids how to save money and how to tolerate some inconvenience (it's summer after all), b) I don't want to overconsume just because I can afford it now, plus c) fortunately enough, we have no health issues that would necessitate different settings.

This is my voluntary part in saving energy, because I'm not a douchebag myself. Now, however, if someone tried to force me to do this (while naturally exempting themselves of all such rules "for the peasantry"), I sure would wave a giant **** at him.

FWIW I was born and raised in SoCal....Have never lived in a house that has A/C. A few weeks out of the year I run some floor fans (right now actually)...lol.

To me, A/C was always too pricey and unnecessary, even in "the good old days".

Driving in my ICE powered vehicle always provided some much enjoyed cooler air...lol...

Winter may require some warmer shorts and a long-sleeve t-shirt from time to time...lol.

Oh goodness. I was raised mostly in the south but I've spent some time in Chicago and Seattle as well. Currently I live in Texas.. ..there is no way I could fathom surviving here without A/C ...

I keep my A/C set at 71 because I have PC's and Servers in my room that are always running so it gets very hot if I set it higher.

My work laptop runs hard so I bought a good cooling pad for it.

These are actual towers and large servers.

We keep our house at 74 during the day, but my home office doesn't have A/C in that room, and the multiple PCs keep it several degrees warmer as well.

True for winter. I otherwise prefer the long clothes and layers times of the year. I did the no-AC thing for a few years. But when I'm not at work, now use a window unit that's set at 73.
