Looking back in my vehicle history which is probably more brief than most 95 Ford Explorer Sport(first vehicle), 2013 Honda Civic, 2020 LT1, 2008 Ram 1500, and 2018 ZL1.. I would probably just go Honda or Toyota in the future if I have to buy a car. Maybe an older Acura or Lexus too for obvious reasons.

This.

Teslas dont Apple Carplay or Android Auto and GM might be looking to pioneer this change with the traditional OEMs.

Interesting article, I haven't figured out how to link to the article, so it's at the Corvette Forum site to read in full detail

I assume, in efforts to tie this into the thread topic, your bringing this up here as we hypothesize a future EV Camaro, that aforementioned EV Camaro could also be banned from similar competition events.

It does make sense to a point. The chances of spontaneous fires are never zero among any vehicles, ICE included, but EVs present an even more dangerous situation. Especially when you consider how hot battery fires burn, and add to it, how much suppression materials are needed to knock the fires out and keep them out.

You are correct, but this Thread has been far at times off topic. Farther than what platform is replacing the Camaro and ICE , EV is closer on topic as it's a replacement , than posts about nothing to do or close to the OP topic.

You see what Mercedes, Tesla, BMW etc are doing with some EV's. For only $1200/year you can get more horsepower...?? Seriously. You have to pay a subscription to get performance out of your EV? F That! They can stick those things up their ASS...

Mercedes Makes Better Performance a $1,200 Subscription in Its EVs

Even though you are paying MSRP for YOUR EV... You'll never truly own it. What a joke.

Tesla started it and its beginning to trickle down to the mainstream OEMs. More reason to stick on to the current vehicles which were developed in the last decade.

...and that is the price we all pay for the "ZOMG my Tesla gives me free updates every week!!!4!" bait and switch technique.

Since these cars are now software controlled to the extent that manufacturers were able to switch over to the "continuous delivery" model as opposed to the old 1-2 releases per model year approach, they have no reason not to continue and march ahead towards the full subscription model.

This will continue unless somehow the subscription model is either outlawed (very unlikely) or superseded (but I don't see how).

Or people just don't buy their bullshit products...! I wish this would be the case, but there are going to be idiots dumb enough to buy these vehicles and pay the subscriptions.

You buy it knowing you can upgrade with a subscription. For more money up front I got a calibration that increased HP in my Saturn Sky RedLine. In this case it’s a subscription to use an alternate calibration. When you get old and don’t want more HP stop paying for it, lol.

Sounds like the Corvettes club guys are salty about the ERay to me. Plenty of track events have no issues with EVs running on track. Formula E has been around for 10 years now.

Why does everyone on the internet have to be an idiot?

Tesla has become a lifestyle for many. Those are the same people who brag about paying for the beta updates and dont realize that they are literally providing the real time data to Tesla so that they can perfect the software.

I think the frequency isnt that bad with the traditional OEMs.

With the amount of lobbying, i believe subscription models are here to stay.

All good points. And no matter how much blow-back or bad press gm and it's subscription plans recieve, they are here to stay. All EVs have to offer is software tech and upgrades that they will try and portray as popular.

Their business model (and EVs) are clones of X-Box, NetFlix, etc. The cars themselves have little to offer, so the Smart-Phone and gaming mentality are the new "mods". EVs are no longer cars with any pride of ownership.

The revenue from subscriptions for gm is in the billions.
