The euro spec 2.8L Dmax is 180HP, which lines up nicely with the 397HP of the 6.6L version. Actually, it would be 425HP if scaled up, but there is always bigger losses with bigger engines.
I guess we will see, but if the 180HP Dmax sells for a few thousand more, yet doesn't make nearly the V6 HP, then I can't see big sales.

Diesels work and have an advantage of a totally different spectrum compared to gas engines...it may only have 180hp but I bet the torque will be more than the V6 and the MPG's will be better by AT LEAST 5...plus longer life and more durable just what a truck needs

No way a crew 4x4 will start that high. Id guess 29 to 31 for an LT. You can get a decently equipped crew 4x4 tacoma for around 31.

I'd bet if you fully option it out with the diesel you'll push 35 for sure. Yea thats expensive, but the same options in a fullsize will push you WELL past that. (not counting rebates here)

They're replacing a little piece of rolling tupperware known as the Saturn SL2 that they bought (used) about 15 years ago. Dad wanted a truck, Mom (rightfully so) says "what do we need a *%(#ing truck for?". So they looked at crossovers instead. Fuel economy (and purchase price) is more important than cargo & hauling. And they like how crossovers look over otherwise equivalent sedans & hatchbacks (Chevy Trax vs Sonic, for example).
