Update: So, I just install one of the coolest mods I’ve added to my ZL1 yet! It’s a launch control unlike how the MSD 2-Step works. As you may have read several posts before this one. I installed the MSD 2-Step, but, I didn’t like how it made the car act when it was at the set RPM for the launch. One thing is it needs a button to activate and deactivate it. Adding one more thing to think about while at the tree. Then, when activated, as it cuts power/gives power back to the coil packs. My engine look like it was ready to jump out of the car, break a motor mount, or throw a belt.

I continued to research more options etc. and I stumbled across getawaycarz.com Drag Box. This device is really cool. It basically needs wired to a ground and 12V (+) Key-On Accessory power source. Then it’s wiring harness connects directly to the brake pedal position sensor and the throttle pedal position sensor. Basically, the pedals sensors send the data to the Drag Box first, then the Drag Box send the data back to the factory wiring harness. Basically, interception the data prior to the ECM getting the data.

The Drag Box, if used stand alone, uses a dial for the “footbrake” and the “ramp speed”. The footbrake basically tells the car if the brake pedal is fully engaged, set the percent of throttle to where you have the dial set, even with the accelerator 100% smashed to the floor. This will give you an RPM just under where your torque converter will lock in. The ramp speed dial, this is how fast the percentage of accelerator percent will go from where it was set for launching to 100%. Allowing you to tailor the ramp in speed to your specific conditions.

The install was clean and not too hard to do. The biggest pain was removing the center console to tap into the 12V key-on power at the aux/accessory plug. To test, I sent the foot brake to 0% and the ramp speed to 100%. Thus, the car, even with my foot to the floor just idled. Then when I let off the brake it just freak’n took off and the RPMs climbed just like smashing the pedal.

Next, I did a test where I set the footbrake dial where the ECU thought the accelerator position was only at 23% when in fact, it was smashed to the floor. This is right before my torque converter locks and the car nudges forward. I set the ramp speed to 50%. Then, when I left off the brake, the car accelerated to Full Throttle, but didn’t do it instantly, it was a few seconds to get there. The car launched quickly and accurately with only a small amount of wheel spin. It also has a manual on/off switch, when it’s off the car just acts normal. Even with it on, you would need to hold the break and throttle smashed to the floor for it to engage. It’s pretty slick!

One other great feature of Stan’s device. It can be adjusted on the fly while inside the car! I will be taking this to the next level and add Stan’s trans brake probably next week or so. But, for me, the Drag Box alone was well worth it!

No... and I hated not going. A ton of the members of my local Camaro Club went and WOW does it look like they had a blast. I was in an accident in my brand NEW Infinity QX80, some girl turning left out of a private drive, through it was a good idea to turn left across 3 lanes of on coming traffic. I mean it makes ZERO sense as she couldn't see past the first lane of traffic closes to her. I nailed her square in the middle of the drivers door. That's what I would have trailered the ZL1 with, and I just wasn't up to driving it a bit wrecked. Always next year for both of us !!!!

Update: So, the Drag Box I installed, is causing inconsistent voltage sync between the throttle body position sensor and the pedal position sensor. This actually threw my car into the worse case of limp mode I've ever experienced. So bad, that my check engine light was "flashing". After I uninstalled the Drag Box, everything went back to normal and my data logs show equivalent data/values now as it did prior to installing the Drag Box.

Update #2: I've decided to move to the next phase of mods for my car! Maybe I'll refer to as my "PHASE.2 Mods" (JK Gabe!) The goal is to hit 4 digit+ rwhp. This will be major changes obviously, including a Maggie 2650, complete Track Day CAM package, heads, and a NW112 throttle body, and obviously a lot more. I hope to take the car up to Katech around the 1st weekend of November for the work to start! Once I get the build list finalized, I share it here for those who are interested.

Clearly this is Rob's thread, but just a quick interjection. It's time for twins, trust me, based on your rate of change, it'll save you tons of money down the road when 1000+ RWHP isn't enough.......

haha... I love it though ! I feel it's "All of ours" We've all contributed greatly to this forum and I wouldn't have made all the "next" steps with out you guys telling me the good, the bad, the I would do and the I would not do's ! It's awesome to see everyone's build progress and the kinks getting worked out and everything being improved upon!

Update: Got the official ALL in +1000rwhp quote from Mike at Katech today. I was expecting a big price tag, but, not as big as it actually was! I'm 90% sure I'm sill going to move forward with the build. Just need to decide on a few items that are maybe optional, but still carry a sizable price tag. Then down the road, a TH400 built for drag racing.

What's crazy is that between parts for the engine build, plus labor, most of the folks here are easily in 6-9 grand most of the time, that doesn't even address the fuel system, which is the where the majority of the LT platform has a crutch. Add another 6 grand there if running a Katech dual in tank or DSX, Goliath, and injectors, plus another $2-300 for a post tank fuel filter setup as well.

I'm probably underballing here on pricing too. Most builds including the fuel system will easily set you back $12-15K for a complete build which can handle proper fueling demands.
