I'd only buy a car that either supported android auto for free or the infotainment system was replacable with aftermarket head units that supported it. Subscribing to some oem service... no. Never going to happen. I'll be fine buying used cars and modding them if newer cars dont provide any choice and want to bring that kind of enshitification to my next car purchase.

I say this though, with no new car on the market that actually interests me enough to want to buy it. I thought, maybe i could see myself in a ev charger in the near future, but dodge is screwing that up. So, it's easy for me to say, f car makers and their vendor lockin and subscription agenda. I'm 1000% sorious though that you will never see me subscribing to anything related to a new vehicle. I'll hack whatever they think they're locking away, replace items with consumer friendly options or just keep driving my camaro for another 30+ years and slowly replace all the electronics as they inevitably fail. It's been a good car these nearly 10 years...i dont have a problem driving it forever if the 'upgrade' is microtransactions and advertisements

Most ford and dodge are made in Mexico unless you're lucky and get a ford from india or a jeep from Italy maybe a chevy from Korea or China.

Don't try to be an American car elitist until you actually know where their crap comes from. American automotive manufacturers have been dodging paying American workers for generations by outsourcing to low income countries and selling it back at a high price because you think it's American. If you want to buy from a car company that's actually been investing in America then buy tesla or toyota.
Equinox - mexico
Trax - korea
Challenger - Canada
Depends on what you buy.
Just off the top of my head:
Camaro (RIP)- America
CT4/CT5- America
Wrangler- America
Gladiator- America
Ram 1500- America
Wagoneer- America
Grand Cherokee- America
Ram HD- Mexico
Compass- currently Mexico, canceled Canada production, coming to America
'26 Cherokee- Mexico
Mustang- America
New Charger (EV and ICE)- Canada
Bronco- America
Durango- America
Explorer- America
Buick Envista - S. Korea
Buick Encore / Encore GX - S. Korea
Buick Enclave - America
Buick Envision - China
F150/250/etc- America
Rivian- America

Then we can get into where the parts for those cars come from. Hyundai Ionic 5, Kia EV6, and EV9 are the most American by part content (but that lumps Canadian supplied parts in as American too) and they're assembled in Georgia.

But yes, if you care, you should be mindful of the whole picture.

Ah so we are going back to the old accessories that attach to your window or vent. I won't pay a subscription just letting that be known right now.

My current truck has both the integrated Google Maps alongside AA/Carplay. I got 4 years of unlimited data plan that allows the integrated Maps to download and show real time traffic. If I keep the truck after that, I can update the maps using my home wifi or phone hotspot and it'll work the same, no monthly subscription needed.

Sure, you can download offline maps of a particular area at home, but it won't work exactly the same. You won't have real-time traffic, accident reports, speed traps, etc since you no longer have a live data connection in the car as you drive. That's the most important aspect of Waze and Google Maps. And if you're in an area that you haven't downloaded ahead of time, just like your phone with no signal, it won't work at all.

Yes, you can have an active connection. You connect the vehicle to your phone's hotspot.
Additionally, the integrated NAV always download the maps for offline use each time there is a connection. So if you don't want/need real time traffic, update the offline maps every so often and it works the same as an offline NAV that you can update the maps whenever you want.

Don't care. I have 2 cars with Android Automotive built in. The 2025 (Equinox EV) comes with 8 years in which I get voice assistance and maps. Good enough. but I dont mind paying to get to use all the apps as well. Its actually very nice being able to log into my car with my google account and getting all my normal stuff

I got my 2017 SS in '16 so it's a little over nine years old. The voice recognition only worked correctly for a few years and then got stupid. I can say "call home" or "call Charlotte cell" and it always responds "what location are you looking for". My brother-in-law also has a 2017 SS and it works the same way. I've had a lot of little electrical glitches and Chevy hasn't been able to fix much of that. And that's a car that isn't even an EV. I don't have much confidence in the newer electronics.

So it downloads/updates the entire US when at home over wifi? Or you have to remember to download a specific area before you depart?

If it does that and allows hotspot tethering to use the phone's data (and not the other way around), then that alleviates most of my reservations since I use Android anyway. I don't think that would be the case for an iPhone user who wants the CP interface.

I guess we'll see in a few years when the trial periods begin to expire what used car buyers think.

You can choose any wifi, whether it's your home wifi or the wifi your phone hotspot is generating.

No. My AA already works so poorly that I don't use it (it regularly looses connection to my phone, multiple times, on almost every drive).

However, bluetooth works fine, so I just use that.

Of course, this doesn't affect us right now, but for those of you who want other GM vehicles, is this a deal breaker?

My Android Auto has an issue with GPS not knowing my location, and it makes using AA for navigation a crap-shoot. Simply put, AA uses the GPS in the car for location and it makes the map bounce around a lot. My GPS issue is unrelated to AA, and part of a high-speed CANBUS issue.

As someone with a Toyota Camry that doesn't have AA, the app system Toyota invented is garbage. I suspect anything Gemini-based and GM owned will be garbage also.
I personally use Android Auto religiously, so it would ****ing piss me off if they remove it.

Carplay and AA are free apps to use, GM is doing this as nothing but a ****ing money grab, forcing people to pay for a sub for navigation.

I will replace the deck with an aftermarket and **** GM and their subscriptions.
