20 mph does not even exceed school zone speed limits!

Even in very heavy traffic, I NEVER even see the warning let alone get locked out. Sorry, if 20 mph in 1st is a hardship, perhaps it's the wrong car for you.

This topic (for the hundredth time) never ceases to make me laugh......
I don’t like to drive around at high RPM either. Again, only when you’re playing with the car, otherwise if you shift like normal you’re going to naturally shift before 20 mph even without looking at the tach because of the engine speed. Most regular city traffic you’re going to shift any car, from Civic to Corvette, below 2000 rpm until you get on the highway.

In some cars, shifting below 2,000 rpm used to be called lugging the engine - so you'd be causing extra wear and tear on engine parts, instead of destroying the transmission.

As a good defensive driver, shifting below 2,000 can also leave you driving with low power availability in case of emergency, like accelerating around a car that pulls out in front of you instead of just jumping on the brakes and hitting it.

Happy motoring ...

^^^ Excellent start!

I would only add one suggestion: How will the last 2024 Camaro off the line be equipped, after Chevy runs out of all the good parts?

As someone whose driven nothing but manuals for 30 years - including high reving manuals like the Honda Prelude with the H22A that doesn’t hit peak power until 6300 RPM - I can assure you that’s not entirely accurate.

2k RPM is plenty fast for the vast majority of engines to shift at. Only in select extremely hi reving motors - mostly motorcycle engines, maybe the Honda S2000 - do you really need to get the revs up to avoid lugging the engine or having no power.

I do not recommend shifting the 2.0t with the T3160 trans into 2nd at 2k. There is such a wide spread in the gearing that you are dropping well below 1500 rpm. Lack of power isn't the issue, it's the opposite, the engine will pull just fine. The problem is high cylinder pressures at low rpm which turbo engines do not like for long term durability.

I guess that’s another reason never to buy a turbo. I’ve never owned one and never will. For many reasons.

I own two of them and love 'em both. Different strokes and all that.
