Hey, how did this thread get resurrected...?

The Camaro is in the storage unit. (I'll keep my storage unit) I don't like keeping any of my vehicles outside.

She's tucked away now...

Up until this year, I was in the same storage quandary as you. I have an ‘04 F-150 that I would park inside year round-until I got the Camaro. The F-150 still went inside during the winter but sat outside all spring and summer. I would store the Camaro off site in winter. The truck was holding up decently until I started parking it outside, now it is disintegrating fast. Even just summer exposure.
So this year I built a 25 x 24 addition onto my 12 x 24 shed, and with a little creative parking I have my ‘71 Vette, the Camaro, my tractor and my kid’s Charger Scat Pack all tucked away, with the wife’s DD and my truck in the house garage. Feels good to have all my stuff on my property and under cover.

I don't think saving a few bucks is worth putting the car outside, especially if you're keeping the car for long time. The weather elements really take a toll on paint. Before getting my 2002 Camaro repainted it was obvious when I parked next to a red 4th generation garage queen just how much better their paint looked, much deeper and wetter look. I cleaned and waxed that car all the time too. The car was always garaged but was a daily driver for many years.

Both of those things 100%. I keep my vehicles for a long time and keeping them outside in the elements all the time takes a toll. I wish I had enough space at my house, but I just don't and I can't build more space being in the city where I am, so I'll keep the storage unit.

That adds up.
You could buy an outside unit easily for what you're paying to rent a storage. Even if you don't have the costs to purchase up front, I'm sure you could finance it for $95/mo roughly and have something to show for it once it's paid up.

What do you mean by an outside unit? Do you mean something like this?

If you do, I can't do anything like that, there are restrictions in the city to how long you can put something like that up. It's like 90 days.

Hmmm...I don't see a connection to a battery tender. I wouldn't pay for storage that doesn't provide an outlet.

Battery is removed and in my basement on a tender. I don't know of any storage units around here that have power. I've stored many cars in many different units over the years. Non had power. Maybe that's just around here, no idea.

That’s the right way to do it anyway. Even on a tender, it gets cold enough here in Cheeseland to wreck a battery. Found out the hard way.

If the vehicle is inside of a structure, even in bitter cold temps, the battery shouldn't normally be impacted so long as it has a full charge. I had a car years ago that had a parasitic drain on the battery that I wasn't aware of. Parking the car for days in the winter would actually result in the fluids in the battery turning to a bit of slush once the charge level dropped down.

Otherwise, I've left vehicles parked outside through sub-zero temps and they started after sitting for days with no issues.

It looks like everyone including myself is storing their cars in the winter season in storage units I suppose. I’ve done this for the past 2 years now. Because I chose a good self-storage unit near my home so I can check out my car any time I want. Also when choosing a storage place choose one with climate control, So the car will be in good condition during the winter. Don’t forget to choose a place with fences and security cameras by the way.

Why is climate control required for an item that is designed to handle all kinds of weather extremes? So long as it remains dry, it's fine.

People see what decades of storage outside does to vehicles without washing and assume the same will happen to them after a few months.

I've had zero issues leaving vehicles outside, plugged in to a tender in temps below -32F without issues. Snow and wind doesn't hurt anything, these are metals and plastics we are talking about. Vehicles aren't make from human skin FFS. I do a clay and good ceramic spray coating in the spring and it looks like the car was stored indoors all winter. People are just nuts over their precious GM vehicles, it's a Chevy, get over it. I occasionally drive mine in the deep winters and people give me the WTF look like I'm crazy. The Camaro is no different than a Chevy Spark when it comes down to it - owner treatment is all physiological. Your Camaro doesn't care if it's +30 or -30.

Only way I'd do storage unit is if it's always heated year-around otherwise it's pointless. Might as well leave it outside uncovered.

Mine is in storage because I don't have a garage bay at home and there's way too much risk leaving it parked in the lot for the condo complex. My truck has spent its whole life outside (six years) includiong going through New England winter snow and ice storms. It isn't perfect, but it's held up fine over 90k miles, six years, and not really being well-cared for overall in terms of washing and such.
