Found the problem, thanks to one of the members

One of the other members, forgot which one, said you have to let car sit for at least a half hr before you ck the oil, damn he was correct. I put in 10 quarts, checked the oil, was at the very bottom of dip stick, looking like it needed another quart. So I drove around the rest of the day, parked it over night, checked in the morning and it was 100% full

I was at Sebring, this past wkend, did 4 sessions, drove home, checked in the morning, it was 100% full

I never saw a car, that takes so long for the oil to settle

My 2017, 1le never did that, I always checked it, right after fill up and it always read full. I have no idea
But I am lucky I did not blow my engine, from adding too much oil.

Reviving this old thread.
My situation is that I have noticeable oil consumption on the track, while no oil consumption on the street.
My observations:
1. I had no track days between October last year and May. So over 6 months of "normal" car use with spirited driving and few 400 miles per day road trips. No oil consumption at all. Oil level at the top of crosshatch at the dipstick. Signs to me that engine is totally fine.
2. This week I had a long track day at Pacific Raceways. 5 sessions, 25 minutes each. Burned 3 full tanks of gas. I've started with oil level at the top of crosshatch. Next morning - level is 1/4" from the bottom of crosshatch. So I've burned around 0.8 quart of oil that day, which is the record so far. Outside of it car felt great, pulling hard and allowed me pass all cars except 992 GT3 (which is so much faster then 1LE). No brake fade and no need to do cooldown laps.

I've used Mobil 1 X3 0w40 and then switched to Motul X-Clean 5w40, both are dexos 2 certified. No changes - there is oil consumption on the track, no oil consumption on the street. Switching to Mobil 1 Supercar 0w40 next week - oh boy how hard was it to get this oil due to recent GM recall.

Had a catch can last season but it was collecting ~30ml of oil after a track day, which is way less that I was loosing on a dipstick. I took it off to avoid potential issues with warranty repairs (so far there were none). No soot on tailpipes.

I've read on Corvette racing forums that for LS/LT NA engines "0.5qt oil consumption per 100 miles of track driving is normal", but their engines are usually far from stock.

I can tell, with 0W40 Oil it's unfortunately normal to have high oil consumption on track.
It gets way to thin at high temperature/load.
Owners manual says: "15W-50 full synthetic engine oil may also be used for track use" even for the LT1 engines.

Out of my experience with my LT4 engine, you won't probably even notice oil consumption when using 15W-50.
Atleast if your engine is in a good condition...

Yes, you are right. If Camaro wouldn't be my daily, I would swap with 15W-50 oil instead.

"15W-50 full synthetic engine oil may also be used for track use and is required on the ZL1 1LE, but after track use must be changed back to 0W-40 dexos2 for street use."

If you live in a warmer area you can probably get away with 5w-50 supercar. A lot of SS 1LE owners have switched to that oil and just leave it in for street use.

I’m going to switch to it over the summer and once it gets cold here switch back to 0w-40.

Any insights how it helps with oil consumption?
