AWD electric would be a rocket.
The funny thing is those cars don't have to be quiet. We already accept piped-in engine noise so they could use a recorded track to reflect the RPMs or KV of the motors. I don't know that's something we would be able to customize, like using the Knight Rider KITT sound if you wanted or if it would be standardized by DOT. |

I'd take the electric first.
Heck, at 3.0 sec, forgetabout all that no-replacement-for-displacement, "I need vibrations on my toochie" stuff. The 5.5 is my next choice as the S/C at 12 mpg is a pass for me. Third is the hybrid. At 300 hp and an average (I assume) of 32 mpg, that is doable. No need for a V6 (and I have one). That's like how trucks used to do back in the day: overlap engine choices to satisfy folks who'd say "I miss my x.xL...Bring it back! Waaa!" |

unless you're talking 32mpg city ...that hybrid isn't doing any better than a much simpler v6. Unless it's got some significantly better 0-60 and quarter mile times. I tend to prefer all one drive train tech rather than combinations as they tend to create more negatives than positives unless you're only concerned with supplementing the ICE weak spots in performance and nothing else. Though, I could see a market for a hybrid in the form of an ICE generator rather than the motor being connected to the drive train. That way the ice motor can stay in it's most efficient rpm band constantly when in use and last a very long time and you still get the simplified drivetrain of a full electric. |

The hybrid would have the same power as the 5.5, not just 300 hp.
Also, hybrids get BETTER mileage in city vs highway typically. The hybrid should be as fast or a little faster than today's SS and use 60% or so less gas, it'll probably also have better weight distribution and a lower center of gravity. Hard to say on weight, but it may be comparable to a V8. The hybrid option may be overall faster that the 5.5 but probably less suitable for longer track sessions.

They actually developed an intake valve that made the 2.0T in the solstice/Sky sound very much like a V8.

The number of cars that have “enhanced” engine noise pumped into the car are just sad.
And to add to the pain are the rules that require EVs to emit some noise at low speed for the blind. I guess kill 2 birds with one stone by having EVs sound like crammed V8s when below 25 mph.

And this was my idea the first time I heard of regulatory sounds for EVs. But someone stole my idea.
