If you have to leave extra room cause you "know what would happen" you already know you shouldn't be driving these tires in the cold.
I am not going to argue whether or not i should be driving my own car or not. I have had mustang and 350z with summer tires for past few years and have been fine, no cracks or accidents. The car has been fine so far. The roads around here and plowed the same day or next day. So as long as there is no accumulation on the road i am fine driving the car and have been so far. I drive 80 miles to and from work when its 15 degrees have been fine, and even when there was light snow. Stop acting like you can't drive this car when its below 40 degrees or something.

Not trying to argue. But it is irresponsible to be recommending to others to do the same thing...cracks in the g3 may show up in the spring. It is not safe to drive g3s below 40. Not sure why you feel the need to contridict the tire manufactures warning for the sake of a few bucks for a 2nd set of tires..im sure you will keep coming back to justify soo.. good luck. And stay off the curbs...

Yep, this endangers other drivers.

This.

While I was waiting for my DWS06's to show up, I drove a few days where the temperatures were either 40s and wet, or 30s and dry. One time I had to brake a little harder than normal and then it became crystal clear just how incapable the OE tires are in the cold. Drive just fine as long as everything is predictable, and then you have to lay on the brakes and you're along for an unpleasant ride. The Contis are sooooo much better for the style of winter we get here in Oregon.

You can drive your car in any weather you like, it's just not recommended. It's your car though, to each his own..

Yes, I never said I’d recommend anyone should drive their car in this weather. Just that it can be done very carefully and my experience. I’d actually advise against it.

When I spoke over the phone with a Goodyear rep, he said not to confuse the tires on our factory 1LE's with other summer only tires that are out there.
He said the tires we have/compound is just a hair under from not being DT approved.
Cold weather riding should be taken very seriously.
After my ass was burning about having to bring my wheels into my warm basement someday, he comes back with something else.
Be sure when you put them in storage they aren't near any electrical fields.
( Circuit Breaker Box ) etc.
The rubber doesn't get along good with electrical waves.
Wtf?

That’s true. They should be covered too. I have my Mickey Thompson’s for my TA covered (to keep any florescent light off the tires) in a cool (above 50*) dry are of my basement away from electrical devices (not for EMF but for the Ozone gas that is created by the running of AC motors) and deflated to about 5lbs. I have always stored my tires this way and have never had any issues. Though I’m not sure the same would /need to apply to the G3’s. I still stored my 1le the same way as my TA so both sets are off and stored in the basement.

Ozone destroys rubber, the softer the rubber the faster.

Wow, this thread blew up. Good conversation going on here!

At the end of the day, the question is: what sort of tires would you recommend using in the pretty much constant drizzling that is Oregon weather?

So far my options have expanded to getting a set of stock SS wheels with a wheel/tire combo that works which frankly I loathe the idea of doing because the 1LE wheels are soo nice looking. The second option is to go with a set of Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires or MPSS in the stock size and just make it work. Third would be to go with a smaller size(295 rear) and see how that opens up the tire market.

I'm leaning toward trying out the Conti's because I really can't wrap my head around the idea of not using my 1LE wheels. I wanted to also see if anyone has experience with Nitto NT555 G2's on our cars.

Footnote: I started this thread before buying the 1LE, now that I have it and have some seat time with the G3's I can safely say that these tires are not really for any sort of weather driving. I've been driving in rainy 40-45F temps for the last 2 weeks and while the tires have yet to end me up in the ditch, God help you if you hit ANY standing water or hit the throttle more than a quarter of the way especially with temps closer to 40F.
