If you could choose the new 2018 ZL1-1LE or the last year ACR Viper (2017), which would you buy, and why?

ZL1 1LE, because I'm a GM fanboi and would never drive a MOPAR.

oh man....good question! Tough, but...I would get the ACR. Sound, looks, I mean, c'mon, its a Viper!

They had one on a turntable at the Detroit Auto Show two years ago and I stood there and stared at it while it did a complete 360 degree spin. The coolest car there. I hope it comes back.

Yes, the valve guide issue is still present. ALL LS7's suffer this design flaw, and sadly the customer has to flip the bill to fix it.

I had contemplated a nice, low mile, used C6Z since they are down to a reasonable price now. Until I did some research and decided I didn't want to drop a couple grand into engine work just to make it reliable right off the bat.

Not all LS7 engines fail. All LS7 engines should be inspected if they are going to be used on a road course. While we are in there we replace the lifters and lifter trays with link bar style lifters, bronze bearing on the rocker arms and tool steel keepers and retainers.

Anything you run on a road course will requires some special attention. Given the performance range of a C6Z, the selling price and the cot of preventative head maintenance they are one of the best values out there.

If I remember correctly GM and Katech both looked into the problem and came to the conclusion that this was caused by valve work done improperly by the company contracted to provide the heads. This was an issue the effected LS7 motors built within certain dates and not after that, I know someone made claims that this wasn't true but I have yet to hear this conclusively.

Any idea what that date might be?
I mean was the issue corrected after the first few years of production, or not until recently?
Like you are good with a 2010 LS7 but a 2009 might be a problem.

I haven't found anything, but then again I haven't spent hours combing through endless threads.

Couldn't we have three or four Z/28s, at least 2 1/2 C6Zs....
