Squeeze on the sides of the "collar/halo" that are perpendicular to the actual tabs. Squeezing on that side with release the other sides. It will require a little bit of force, but it shouldn't be so much that you're afraid you will ruin the plastic tube.

You're gonna need a can of man and squeeze the sides of the ring that's around the tube and pull it apart.

This is a great mod. Noise increase in mid range is very noticeable, it's like having an aftermarket intake except you don't lose any power and it's free!

Not a bad little mod, took longer to get the needle nose out of the toolbox than it did to do the job. Sounds great under throttle. I still have the craving for MOAR LOUDER, but this will hold me over until I'm ready to do exhaust work.

You have to admit they do seem to spend alot of time coming up with new ways to make connections- just changed out my 3rd brake light for the ZL1 dark one and I had to stop and figure out the wire connection. Whenever you think you've seen'em all, they come up with a new one!

The foam seemed to be molded at a certain diameter but cut at later time. So it's possible that not all foams were cut to same lengths, which contribute to different delta in sound... just saying...
Just took the plug out, 2016 2SS A8 non-NPP, the foam piece is 1 3/4" long. Will drive tomorrow and post results to the forum.

Big difference on heavy acceleration, I didn't notice any negative sounds due to AFM. I'll keep it. Thanks,

For those of us with the controversial MUFFLER delete which sounds GREAT, this is AWESOME. You know how great it sounds now? Will take that, add a deeper tone at WOT, and a QUIET ASS CABIN. Want it loud in the cabin again, drop the back seats. Peace

I feel I need to comment too. I just removed the foam. HOLY Sh1t!!. night and day difference. I also did not hear any AFM weirdness.

Going to put mine back in soon. It's fun, but annoying on longer highway drives.

I may too...as it is WAY WAY louder....but only when you punch it. I'll play it by ear.

Yeah, that's exactly it...it's taken a few weeks to get over it and now i could live without the noise.

I can see why some would have this opinion. However, I DD'd my old 2000 SS with longtubes, no cats, dumped at the axle for a few years. It will take a lot more to get to that level of annoying on this car.... can't wait
