A while back a guy on the BMW motorcycle owners forum posted a vid from his bike. He was splitting lanes of stopped traffic (which is legal in CA where he was) and on the video you can see a guy look, and then intentionally open the rear door of an SUV right before he get's there. It was obviously intentional, and they had no idea it was all caught on video.

Seriously considering getting at least a front one myself.
Had my family in San Fran this summer we were stuck in freeway traffic and I was amazed at all the bikers weaving through cars. I thought it was illegal, good to know. My wife and I were were just worried we might knock a biker over, we had to constantly keep checking to make sure wet left room for them.

Much appreciated, I called her insurance company she already started the claim, so it looks good. I just think I'll have trouble getting the insurance company to pay for my matte black wrap.

Honestly, glad no one was hurt and hope you get things corrected. Must admit though it doesn't look like she blew through the stop, more it looked like a rolling stop after those two vehicles passed. Luckily she wasn't driving all that fast or it could have been much worse. Just curious and not trying to imply anything but also wonder why you weren't able to swerve harder to avoid her? Again, she is at fault, but it appears that you may have had time to swerve more and possibly avoid it.

Honestly when I was driving I did not see her until she entered the middle lanes and here in northern Virginia people use those constantly to merge. So people jump into those rather quickly, I assumed she was doing that, once I looked over and saw her front end about to ram my door it was a little late for me to check my blind spots and and change lanes or slam on my brakes. So I attempted to give myself as much cushion from her while staying in my lane without causing another accident in which I would then be the guilty party.

Does that help? Like I said earlier, when I realised the accident was inevitable I had about 1 second to go through what I just explained above. It was either try to minimize my accident or risk another accident in which I could be the guilty party and still potentially be involved in her accident.

Hope that helps. :-)

I am extremely familiar with Northern VA having worked at Reagan Airport for 10 years. Wasn't trying to challenge you in any way and was only questioning it because of the video.

I also noticed not a ONE Starbucks in the video either. If you notice when he was leaving, no Starbucks around. Uh huh. He's trying to cover up for something he wasn't supposed to be doing.

No worries, this is common, because honestly the video shows me lunging away from her but only to hug my side of the lane and that's because of what I said above.
To me it was about risk and reward and with the time allotted I couldn't be sure if there was a car in my blindspot and I sure as heck didn't want to find out by slamming into it and causing a bigger wreck and then being the guilty party.

You did fine not swerving further in my opinion. A few months ago I was the third car back in a four car pile-up. I swerved as far over in my lane as I could without crossing the line, but not knowing what might be over there meant I just couldn't take the risk. As a result, I smashed up my front right fender, beat up the head light, cracked the bumper and snapped the lower control arm. BUT, having reviewed my dash-cam footage later (I also have front and rear), it showed that if I had swerved into the lane I'd have been wiped out by the next three cars that shot past. On a four lane interstate that would have been pretty messy...

Unfortunately State Harm have screwed me on my claim so I've had to do repairs and a patch job myself, so my Camaro now looks like a drift car. Wonderful. I really need to chase up on getting the rear fixed, though, as that's on somebody elses company...on the plus side, the dash-cam showed I wasn't to blame and the citation I had for 'too fast for conditions' was dropped.

By the way, although those crushed sections of pipe on the exhaust don't affect performance, they sure buckle up when you get rear ended!

Also, I hope you or the lady are not with State Harm. As the accident wasn't your fault, you should be able to get the wrap replaced - it'd only be if you were at fault and you hadn't told your insurance company to cover the wrap beforehand that you'd likely not have it replaced. Good luck!

Other than that, it sucks to be in any kind of accident. It really lets you know how many people around you aren't paying attention.

Just for your pleasure...the rear view camera shows a Food Lion and sign that says South Riding Town Center. So go to Google maps and you get this:

I will admit she didn't "blow" through the stop sign...But after she nailed me (that's what she said) and after reviewing the video..I was a little pissed off :-).
