Yeah, I hear ya....Only thing about the 350R I've noticed so far from the LL and now this, is that no one is raving about what a great track car it is. Almost to the point of disappointment, with the new engine, cf wheels, rear seat delete, etc., etc.,...Maybe it's more in the realm of creature comforts and street feel, but they've got plenty of other Mustangs for that...

I was expecting the 350R reviews looking to "destroy" the old Z/28....all crickets so far.
350R has great feel, great balance, fun to drive, but so far to me it hasn't been shown to be the great leap forward in track performance...."Hard to get a fast lap in"....type of thing...

Still early, I hope the 350R has more to offer once the 6thGen ZL-1 and Z/28s are out. So far it seems the 350R is just breathing a big sigh of relief that it has "outperformed" the 1LE...

I still think it's so cool that the car meant to be compared with the GT PP is being compared to the much more costly GT350 and GT350R.

I just hope someone does a SS 1LE vs GT350 test, so we can see how the SS 1LE beats up on the GT350 for what, $12,000 less?

Or, for some real humiliation, a GT PP vs SS 1LE test...

I'm gonna say the 1LE ran a 1:37.65. The R a 1:36.15.
Damn, 4/100 of a second off.

The GT350R was to beat the Z/28. It did that. It also did it almost the exact same way. Juiced up engine in a so so platform that was tweaked with everything they could throw at it to make it a track star. Camaro 6 has the advantage of a complete ground up redesign. I think the next gen mustang (which will probably star the Voodoo in GT trim) is going to do the same thing GM did with the 6th gen Camaro

All of these times have in some way or another been floating around the web for weeks. I found out the SS 1LE and GT350R times weeks ago...as well as a few others that a buddy of mine found on the SCCA forums.

Not at VIR... (not a pro, I know)

So did the S550 the year before.

Doubtful we will see the Voodoo in a regular GT, it's too costly of an engine and has too many parts not shared with the trucks to keep warranty costs down. Plus, I think too many (normal folk) would bitch about the lack of low end grunt.

But, I am surprised the GT350R didn't do better than it does considering the Voodoo, and carbon fiber wheels and such. The C7 GS beat it by 4.7 seconds at the LL in the same year with the same driver. Plus, in the video, it looks as though it started raining for the C7 GS lap.

Also, the non-R versions of the GT350 are turning out to be significantly slower than the SS 1LE. Seeing how the Voodoo has about 70 more HP than the LT1, I though we would see better times in comparison. I think it just shows you how far ahead GM is with it's chassis development, suspension setup, and getting the power down to the road.
Keep in mind that the lightning lap times were done by editors. I would trust that times from a pro like Randy Pobst are much more realistic in terms of the capability between cars.

Randy has run a C7 Z51 at 1:38 and Z06 (working correctly) at 1:33 on laguna seca, so figure a GS is somewhere in between.

Will be interesting to see the GS and ZL1 go up against each other in next year's competition.

Not gonna throw in times from LL when talking about RP's times at laguna. Completely different class of driver. Otherwise I might as well throw out there that my 5th gen 1LE was faster around a track than a GT350 this year at Watkins Glen....

The lighting lap can be difficult to use for comparisons of cars run different years, with different drivers, but the C7 GS and GT350R were same driver, same course, same year, etc... yes, it was Quiroga instead of Pobst, but a valid comparison none the less. And 4.7 seconds is an eternity when it is the same driver, same track, same whatever.... And again, the C7 GS ran in the rain, and the GT350 had no rain. You can see it in the videos.

That being said, if I won the powerball, I would love to have a GT350 in my garage. Along with many others of course....

For those of you without MT on demand at 15 second mark is a snippet of the 1LE remarks that I talked about last week.

Quote:
Lieberman: Uuuuhhhh are we talking about how this thing drives or are we saving that for a later episode?

Lago: Well we'll probably play this video before the tested video goes up, but we have already tested it. We're pretending like we haven't, but we can say we tested it.

Lieberman: (quietly) So can we say how great it drives?

Lago: It drives really great! (laughing)

Lieberman: THIS THING DRIVES AMAZINGLY WELL!!!

Lago: This thing is amazingly fast! (laughing)

Lieberman: Yeah, yeah! I mean numbers wise this thing is identical to like the uuuhhh i don't know THE SHELBY! R! Not the just the Shelby, the Shelby GT350...R!!! The BMW M4 GTS, which by the way is $136,000 BMW! Or you can have a $45,000 Camaro, and the numbers are the same!

Lago: The numbers are the same, and frankly this thing gets off the corner better than those two. I'd say because of that rear diff. (referring to the E-LSD)

Lieberman: This is one of the better cars I've EVER taken around our figure 8. I mean... its just... great. But you know you don't feel like its because of the diff, you feel like its because of the mechanical grip. The tires. The suspension.

Lago: You feel like everything just works. You don't sense that diff activating. Uh Randy Pobst might because he's a pro, but for me... its fine.

Lieberman: Yeah yeah yeah its quick. You know and also for me these goodyears... I've never been a huge fan of Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires... But now I am. These have turned a corner! These are... GREAT TIRES!
