Since the OP is fairly old, I'm guessing that they've borken it in by now... but for those reading it now, with a new exhaust you need to break it in a little bit and it will get louder. My S Type was definitely a lot louder and better sounding than the stock NPP, especially at higher RPMs, after about 1,000 mi it broke in and it's even louder.
