you do realize the second generation camaro was inspired by Ferrari's of the 1960s right? some of the most expensive and desired cars to this day.

In person, I just prefer the lines of the S550. It just does it for me. The S550 still make me turn my head when I see one, while the 6th gen I look at it to try and see if its a 15 or a 6th gen.
That is one of the complaints from the Mustang guys that bugs me. I like both cars but I don't feel like the mustang made such a radical departure from the previous gen (particularly the GT500 and boss models). I think either one of them could be confused with the previous generation at a glance. That's not a bad thing though. That's what makes the new Mustang look like a mustang and same for the Camaro.

The Mustang grew on me; in pictures I didn't care for it, but in person the GT is pretty nice.

Still like the GT350 100 times more though.

This is a common theme for me, the base cars usually don't do anything for me, but the subtle differences as you progress through the various tiers of Mustang, Camaro, and to a lesser degree, Challenger really make a huge difference.

Both definatly you can see their roots as being a Ford or Chevy. In fact these 2 are the only Fords and Chevys left where you can see there historic roots. All the other products have just become boring toasters on wheels.

Agree completely. The S550 isn't a major styling departure from the S197. In fact, every Mustang other than the Fox has tried to look like the original fastback yet there is such loud criticism for the gen6's evolutionary styling from that camp.

I agree that the S550 could have been more revolutionary, but the looks definitely look evolutionary. But the problem with the 6th gen camaro is that it physically looks more like a mid model refresh.

I was driving with my brother and he was completely unaware that the 6th gen had launched and were available... until I pointed out the 6th gen camaro driving right next to us.

I feel like both cars could be confused with a mid cycle refresh. The mustang just looks like they updated the headlights and taillight area. Although the new Camaro is smaller, most people wouldn't be able to tell without two generations side by side.

I think it is a valid complaint, just not a valid complaint for one and not the other.

Great responses here. All in all, it is a personal preference. I guess I prefer the Camaro (5th and 6th gen) over the Mustang styling because I prefer the angrier look. Kind of how I prefer the look of a Lamborghini over a Porsche.

Exactly. I am the same way. I prefer a menacing/mean looking exterior.

I see what you are saying, to my eyes, the Mustang did enough to be different from the S197, while the 6th gen kept to much of the 5th

I could see that as well

It was love at first sight for me and I had to have one. Ordered brand new and went against my typical "buy a lightly used 2 year old car" mantra. I looked at the Mustangs. Couldn't see myself being happy with one. I definitely prefer the Camaro styling and agree that it can't be mistook for any other car. Looks "special" compared to most of the boxes on the road.

All the early camaro vs mustang appearance comparisons harped on the rear end of the Camaro. I just don't get it. The Mustang rear end is all slanted and funky IMHO. Looks like a cavemans forhead:

I don't see that at all, not picking up on the reference point. The Mustang rear end looks like the old school style, except the bumper is painted body color rather than chrome. Here's my '69 Mach1 as reference:

The Mustang's slant is supposed to be a modern take on the slight slant the 69/70 Fastback's had. They didn't have a vertical rear end panel, it was canted about 15 degrees forward.

I do. I also know that pininfarina did up some 60's era 250GT's for ferrari as well and while his studio produced some real masterpieces they also designed trash like the mitsubishi colt czc. Sometimes because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done. Mustang II's, cadillac cimarron etc. My point is all mfg's have styling miscues but I don't expect chevrolet fanboys to admit that.
