We picked up a A8 last month and love it. It is really your call. I don't like shifting gears anymore and have found the A8 is fantastic. Probably a little faster 0 to 60 (if you believe the reports).
But honestly, it is your call, get what you want and smile!

As long as the Automatic or Dual-Clutch in a car that I am getting is not a performance hinderance, I will now take it over a manual. The more modern ones are just plain better at shifting than we are and I know I can use all the extra brain power to concentrate on my driving line.

Auto Pros:
Remote start
Absolute fastest 0-60 and 1/4 mile times
Highest fuel efficiency for DDers
Ease of use for DDers (traffic etc)
No need to replace the clutch down the line

Auto Cons:
Price

Manual Pros:
Free!
Feel?

Manual Cons:
Everything else.

At the end of the day, it's preference really. I've never been enamored with manual transmissions, but if you love the feel, go for it. The A8 in the Camaro is fantastic and comes with better tech and performance. It gets my vote!

Cons: it is way way way way way cheaper to replace a clutch then to replace an 8 speed auto. I have a Nag1, 5 speed in my Challenger and a performance rebuild is $3000 plus converter and labor you would be looking about 5500 big ones. Good for about 650 HP and still fail if you were going to do a run like the silverstate. I would add 1 to 2 grand for an 8 speed rebuild.

M6, change clutch, fluid run 200+ MPH, ain't gonna break, ain't gonna overheat.

A8 does have an advantage 0-60 and 1/4 based on stock car. A set of 4.10 in the M6 would fix that. When mods that add and broaden the torque come out the M6 will benefit more just because of its weaker gear ratio and farther spread. MSD intake, long tube headers, TB.

From a roll it is all M6.

If this was a DD, or a 1/4 mile queen I would have rolled a A8, it is a phenomenal trans. But this is a pleasure car for me so M6 is the only way to fully enjoy a muscle car.

So M6 pros:
any type of mid to long term heat generation: M6
from a roll M6
with normal mods: M6
rebuild time: M6
Fun: M6

A8: cons:
any type of mid to long term heat generation
high HP or high mileage rebuild $$$$$
from a roll, where most street fights happen

A8 plus: easy to drive, easy to race, perfect DD. Also easy on the rest of the drivetrain and it will be cheap to upgrade the rear diff to a 3.73 dirt cheap. Last an auto with a stall is absolutely a dominant street fighter combo.

My younger bro races Porsches, the dual clutch is very misbehaved as a DD, and crazy $$$$ to fix. These owners are far more forgiving than Joe average with a 2SS, GM would be inundated with complaints. Look at Acura they are shoving in torque converts in all these new fangled types of transmissions cause Acura owners would be complaining about the DD hickups and sputters that are part of the dual-clutch experience... All good in theory, but Joe average really does not want one, and can't afford one.
