The first paragraph: "Small turbocharged engines are marketed as delivering the power of a large engine, with the fuel economy of a smaller one. That's a tempting proposition, but our testing shows these small-displacement turbos are not delivering on the promises."

I think we are done here. Should be interesting to see what comes of the new breed of Camaro owner.
I don't believe this thread has run its course and this thread is very interesting to many of us here. Also this thread is about future camaro models not really about fuel economy.

Not all Scion models, just a few. The FRS did survive though and is living on as a Toyota as you're describing. I believe the boxy Xb and some others survived but the rest are going away.

On the 4 cyl turbo "issue" and why tuners like the BRZ (and Ecoboost too), with the tuners I hang around (track rats) it's all due to weight, and balance. The BRZ/FRS is so popular because it is VERY reminiscent of the Nissan S-chassis cars. Since there is no new Silvia, these cars fill that void. I've owned a few 4 cyl turbo cars in the past but I prefer V8's. The power delivery and feel is completely different and I enjoy both. I've talked to 3 friends who have owned ss/sc and ss/tc cobalts in the past and all 3 are very excited for the turbo 4 Camaro. Apologies for the rant lol.

Agreed with Al, this is a GREAT time for the Camaro/Mustang rivalry!
That's the deal though, while they might be popular the Camaro will easily outsell them 5:1 once all the models are in the mix.

Of course they have. 1LE is an option, so it stands to reason the people choosing it are ordering a car they plan to buy. I doubt a lot of dealers ordered the package for inventory cars, opting instead for the 2SS trim level.

I said fleet average, not individual models and what they might get in the way of MPG.

On the 2.0T camaro vs the scion frs if someone is going to buy these cars and keep it stock the 2.0T camaro has a better power to weight ratio at 3,339 pounds. The extra 75BHP plus the huge increase in torque over the FRS, i believe the last test i read with a frs and automatic transmission got to 60mph in something like 7 seconds. Stock for stock the 2.0T camaro smokes the frs, not only that but the features that you can get in the camaro that you cant in the frs means that the camaro is going to have a wider appeal.

I seriously doubt people are going to cross shop a FR-S/BRZ and a Camaro

The FR-S and BRZ are typically cross shopped with Miatas, and not by drag racers at all.

Turbo 4 VS flat 4; 2+2 coupe; $25,000....it'll be solidly in that field, and I'm sure more than a few people will be comparing them as a first "sporty" car.
