My dashcam records everything.. and when you start it up, it talks to you so that anyone thinking about being an ass gets a warning. The gps tracking also shows everywhere it went.. lovely little mapping system.

I owned one and yes Dodge nailed it by providing 2 red keys, the black key, and a proper valet mode. The first few times I took it to the dealership it was always black key and valet mode, by the end I trusted them enough to just go black key.

Have you ever tried driving in valet mode? It must hold the wastegate wide open because it doesn't allow the car to make any boost and I would venture to say a honda civic is probably faster. I think the black key limits the boost to 5 or 6 psi. Also on my really really shitty local drag strip I was running only .2-.3 slower in the quarter in 500hp mode compared to 700hp mode on street tires. Can't get traction at all there...but it is really cool to be able to adjust your power output on a stock car.

Wish they still did that with the Corvette and Camaro.
And the valet key switch was also on the side of the center console just under neath the dash on the passenger side as well. I had a friend buy a used one in '98 and I had to be the bearer of bad news that he didn't buy a true ZR1. He bought a "made one" thru his stepdad who was an administrator at a local major auto auction and the dealer who brought it did everything to the car he could to pass it as a ZR1 and was able to get away with it. The only thing he didn't do was the valet key switch. He probably didn't know about it. He had all the badging and in the right places, the wider rear fenders, the wheels and correct tire sizes, the interior ZR1 plates (I suspect the one with what number it was was taken out of a totaled one a junkyard) and even a ZR1 manual ( also probably from the one from the junkyard.) He also didn't change the VIN plates, so if the auction had done their job to verify the car, they would have caught the fraud, but they didn't.

I didn't know the Gen6 Carmaros had a valet mode on it. A power reducer would be nice on it. I also haven't been thru the menu on mine as thoroughly as I should have yet either.. But when I take mine anywhere for servicing or other work to be done, I always stand right outside the bay where the work is being done on my car. They can not do or say anything to me for being outside the garage bays. They only have rules about non employees being IN the garage bays. I watch EVERYTHING they do to my car from the time it leaves the service area to the time it returns. They don't even try to take it for a test drive when they know I'm watching everything they do. If they need to take it out, I demand to either take it myself while the tech rides or the tech drives while I ride with him, but it goes no where without me being INSIDE the car. If the dealership has an issue with me doing what I do, then I find another to take it to and repeat the process until I find one that allows me to do it my way.

Please provide some details on this. Is it hardwired into your electrical system? What brand and $$?

Right now I attach my GoPro Hero5 Black to the seat handle behind my left shoulder to have the same forward view of my trips that I would have. But of course, people can "forget" to turn it on.

I hate to resurrect an old post but I do have some info (years later) that someone might find useful. I am about to go test it out to see if it works well and I will report back later.

So Valet Mode simply locks out the Infotainment system. But it also gives you a report on several things like distance driven, top speed, throttle input, overspeed warnings, and other stuff. It doesn't limit anything, it just rats the person out.

Teen Mode apparently allows you to set the top speed limit to 85 MPH and you can set a speed warning to any speed you want. Say, you can set the warning to 20 MPH...the driver can go over 20 MPH and it will warn them. But they can't go past 85 MPH. Which also seems kinda useless. But at least it's something.

So what you wanna do is set the Teen Mode to 85 MPH and then set the warning wherever you want. Lock the code in. Then go into Valet Mode and lock that in. After you pick the car up it will give you a detailed report on the top speed, overspeed warnings, etc.

And now for my rant. GM, Dodge, and Ford all know very well that these cars are tempting and people have no restraint. It would literally have taken very little to set in a feature allowing the owner to limit the RPMs or to put the car into "Limp Mode" or something. Even a feature that starts auto trans cars off in 2nd or 3rd gear and then straight to OD or starts the manual trans in first with limited RPMs and then straight to 4th while still limiting RPMs. That and a damn locking feature for the gas cap or fuel door. "Oh here's a Black key"...great so I'm still handing a complete stranger a 500 HP car. These features should come standard in these cars to prevent joyrides and burnouts and such.

Can HP Tuners be used to set a speed limit when the Valet mode is selected?

I haven't found any valet mode specific settings in it. They might still be lurking there under a cryptic name, but it's not something I was able to figure out, sorry.

Alternatively, maybe there is a seting in HP Tuners that lets us set the max rpm when Valet mode is selected

The problem using HPT is that you are effectively voiding your warranty since it is a tune. So if you could set the RPM limiter lower or perhaps turn down the throttle percentage then that would be cool for those of us with tuned cars. But it would not be soo good for those who want to keep a warranty.

My only suggestion would be to use a throttle controller and turn it all the way down and then hide the device somewhere.

Or perhaps putting the car in Snow/Rain mode and then using Valet Mode to lock out the Infotainment system so the user cannot change modes. That might be an option.

The throttle controller is a good idea indeed. But for those who don't care about warranty, is there a setting in HP Tuners that would associate Valet mode with a low speed or rpm?

My solution is to ask for a valet but ask if you can park the vehicle yourself if the valet parking is close to the venue. I have seen rev-limiting devices, which sounds ok but I'm not sure how that would work on a manual transmission as I'd hate to hear a valet not be able to rev the engine enough and the engine dies because the RPMs weren't enough to get the car moving forward.

Also, I've heard some people tell me that they've met valet drivers that don't know how to drive stick, which I thought ALL valet drivers were supposed to know how to drive stick?!?!

I am not sure about that. But if you don't care about the warranty then I suppose you could always just update the tune with an adjusted the RPM limit before handing the keys over. And then just reload the regular tune when you get the car back.

Another method besides a throttle controller is maybe putting the car in Snow/Ice mode and then turning on Valet Mode. That way your performance is very limited and the user cannot get into the screens to change the mode. I'm just wondering exactly how much Snow/Ice mode limits the car. I used it once back when I got caught in a huge snow storm back in 2017 but that was a long time ago. I'm gonna go out in a bit and test it to see how effective it is. I'm assuming it limits throttle response, throttle percentage, RPMs, and keeps TC on at all times.

If it does severely limit the performance then this might be the best option for keeping people from beating on our cars.
