Here is my question about the NPP. Assuming you have the NPP set to full open is the NPP any louder or sound any better than a stock exhaust?

I have NPP on my V6 and I love it. I keep it in sport mode all the time because I don't want it to be quiet. Granted you only hear it on startup and then when your rpms get high enough. My 2014 I had aftermarket exhaust and it was loud all the time. In the cabin it's not loud (like my aftermarket was). So it really depends on if you want loud all the time or only when revving? I wish there was a "track" option on the v6s for the option to have loud all the time if wanted.

If you fail to get NPP, there is another GM exhaust coming, will be the nice loud sound of the NPP, but no ability to switch it quieter. V6 Part no is 84028864

Track mode does not keep the valves open at all times, at least on the a8.. I can't even tell a difference between track and sport. Valves are still closed at low rpm while moving and on the highway in track. It's the same as the corvette

That thread has a great explanation of the new NPP and from what I have observed with my a8, the function is identical on my car

I may have been mistaken in my description of the track mode, then. It seemed to me that it was open all the time on my drive. Could've been my mind playing tricks on my ears.

Has anyone heard the non NPP on a 16 ss? Is it louder than the 5th gen?

IMO the NPP exhaust is a great value. Where else can you get an exhaust upgrade at this price? The control of the sound is worth it alone. The stock exhaust sounds great too, but NPP is a great enhancement.

For those asking if it is worth it on the V6... definitely. Was one of my must have options. I was initially getting the 6, but loaded it up to $39-40K and figured at that point I might as well go all out since I was already over budget.

It has a completely different sound than the V8, but it sounds really good. When I went to the find new roads tour the "reps" there were absolutely awesome and when I asked to hear it on the V6 (what I planned on getting), they fired the car up and it really sounded great. He asked if I wanted to hear it on the V8 and I wasn't going to say no lol.

Hearing the two side by side, they both sound great with the 6 having somewhat of an exotic sound as some have mentioned. Definitely an awesome sounding V6. The SS on the other hand was deeper... and well... sounded like an awesome V8.

Get the NPP.

I don't believe you have the choice to have it open all the time. That would allow the customer to defeat a Federally mandated requirement for noise pass by, which I don't think the OEM can do. It would be like enabling the customer to turn off airbags.

I believe it is conveniently priced at or just below many of the top notch aftermarket exhausts. And those are loud allllll the time. Even on the highway, which I don't prefer. I do not like an open exhaust on long trips, Sam I am. But many do and many will prefer an aftermarket solution.

It is now available on the SS for 2016. When I bought mine last year (2014 model), it wasn't available. It isn't an option that is so awesome it makes me want to trade in and get a 2016.

You can have it fully open all the time. Basically here's the breakdow. Snow/Ice= 25% open, Touring 25%-50 %, sport = 50-75% ,track is always 75%. However if you pull the fuse it opens the valves 100% all the time, so it is louder to a degree, no alarms and no faults are tripped. I e pulled mine and love it. Sure you lose the rest of the option, but barely if any drone, and sound in lower Rpms is much better and louder throughout. Gas mileage may suffer but no enough to worry about. Currently I have a 2016 1SS with NPP exhaust, Sema fender hashmarks, Mishimoto CAI and baffle can, GM aftermarket sport suspension kit, street scene front splitter and a few other goodies. I'm running a 3.7 0-60 and 12.2 1/4 mile. NPP is well worth it. The setting can be adjusted in the radio options to stay on Track for exhaust and also your preference in steering, without effecting what drive mode you have it in.

Zach, just curious why you are so curious about NPP since it can't be added retroactively to your V6 and will automatically come on your ZL1?

Does your CAI make a noticeable improvement in the sound?
