If GM could take the 70 Chevelle and update the design like this Charger rendering

I would be all over it.

I emailed the guy that made it last night to see if he would consider doing a modern Chevelle. No reply as of today.

That's not a bad looking concept but too much 5th gen Camaro design language.

I know you're not suggesting that personally, I'm just making a point. The haven't turned the Camaro into a 4dr if you see what I'm getting at.
Hilariously enough the closest thing GM has to a Chevelle right now comes as a sedan, sportwagon, and a ute.

And I love how everyone complains about Charger being a sedan but from what I can tell, Chrysler has no problem finding buyers for it.

Like it or not: Sedans sell. It's an easier sell than a coupe. Always will be. Coupes have become a niche market that only has room for a small number of players.

I would seriously consider a well-priced Chevelle SS sedan over a Camaro SS coupe for the use of a backseat when I have kids—got to think ahead to the not-so-distant future.

Don't you think the Charger sedan would have sold equally as well if it wasn't called a Charger?

If GM wants a new 4 door performance sedan, keep the SS. If they want to bring back the Chevelle, I don't think it should be a sedan.

I tend to agree with your logic. The mopar camp was trying to stay alive. I think they used the charger name to do it. The car is a decent car regardless of the name but people were drawn to it partially because of the name.

Chevy is doing better sales wise and has a little more leeway to make cars based on target markets not just to stay afloat. The Z/28 and SS are proof of this. And other than the idea, the new Dart has 0 in common with its predecessors. That car is proof that they are trying to use a name to sell a product. They know that if they called the exact same car a neon, they would never move.

Charger was already an established nameplate for performance-oriented cars. It was instantly recognizable as a Dodge product by everyone. It takes a LOT of marketing dollars and effort to roll out a brand-new nameplate, just ask GM (who loves doing so with every new generation of compact it seems). Especially when it's a RWD full size sedan in a market dominated by FWD platforms.

True.

I would prefer a 2 door but if they make it look like a Chevelle and it has to have 4 doors, I would really be tempted to buy one. The Chevelle is my favorite car but its not around so the Camaro is what I am looking at.
