25 miles from nearest expressway, so around here most of the time as a D/D; yes, you have to drive with an IQ greater than 2-digits; with cops thicker than outhouse flies, a drug operation going on somewhere in the area, and school startup with kids and busses scattered around. And the propensity of idiots painting bike lanes recently all over 4-lane roads, and cutting them down to 2-lanes---for bozo's that pay nothing to maintain the infrastructure. Don't get me started on that one.
But if you're talking expressway, yeah, I get 27 at average 85-90mph barring any cops with Kodaks.
6500~ miles on 6 month old car, so it doesn't do a whole lot of holding a garage-queen title.
Plus, wife starts to bitch if I get the right foot syndrome if she's with me.

Downhill record to work with no busses or kids, 39.1. Going back up, 25~ dropping the average to 32~
Totally realistic.
Or basically anything above 30 MPG in an SS requires the entire stretch to be downhill. My former 3.6 V6 pulled 42 MPG all highway without trying with a maximum of 47 MPG on a long road trip... stating, even with freak numbers in an SS, there's still a notable difference in fuel mileage between the V6 and SS:

Of course, all this goes south the moment you actuate the "magnets" in the floor and the back of the go pedal.

Then again I'm sure nobody here bought a V8 for fuel economy.
In Texas, I-10 between Houston and San Antonio, mostly all flat, 28 was the absolute max I could get at 80 MPH in my A8 SS with AFM & Cruise Control...albeit that is still GOOD...just dont make it more than it really is...

Otherwise, I'm normally limited between 25 and 27 MPG freeway and 19 - 23 MPG street.

and correct...I did not buy this car for fuel mileage...but in this realm...the V6 is still on a different level when it comes to economy.

"You used only 1/4 of the tank driving 284.7 miles?

That smells hella fishy.

I get 18 to 19 combined, and verified with arithmetic.
I'm sure the mileage could increase, but when you throttle this car it will suck down the premium fuel like a redneck drinking free Pabst.
It depends on your right foot, but who buys an SS for gas mileage (2SS M6)
On the other hand, my Nova 350 M4 gets 10-12 on the street and 18-19 on the highway. 300 horse vs 450 horse. My Camaro with 1-1/2 times the horse power, 250 pounds more weight, gets double the mileage. Gotta love fuel injection.

That is why you aren't hitting 30 mpg and above. My top mpg was achieved at 60-65 mph in the right lane (and I'll be the first to admit it was mostly out of curiosity, I wouldn't want to drive hundreds of miles that way).

Fully agree about the V6, by the way. I had it and its fuel economy numbers are in a different bracket.

I bought my SS to enjoy. Fill it up and mash the pedal when I can. I don't care about MPG. I'm in it for the thrill.

I changed the oil at 1000 miles and then did one track day (not pushing too hard). Still has that oil in it. Oil life meter reads 82%. Has this happened to anyone else?
It's not your fuel economy that's getting worse; your DIC is getting more accurate. These things are wildly inaccurate in the beginning. Mine shows combined fuel economy of 18.5 MPG when the calculated average is actually 17.7 MPG. It finally went from showing 330 miles of range on a full tank to 315 miles. 6500 miles on the odometer.

My DIC was only 1L/100 optimistic.. Which is a lot closer than I thought it would be, lol.

My mileage is dropping because I'm spending more time on the throttle, after the break in period, lol

Bought mine for performance also. But since my 15 year old beater had a sack of both potatoes and onions in it that rotted, my SS is the D/D. The good mileage is a surprising bonus, when driven civilly. Dang cops have a tendency to "escort" me in and out of town.

Beater is a story in itself. a Camry, it was driven by a 94 yo man, who was found dead in the shower. I don't think it gets quite 20 mpg. Nobody parks next to it at wallmart, cause it's covered with dings and scratches. But park my SS anywhere near the parking lot where it's deserted, there has to be some idiot parking his "beater" right next to the car. Go figure.
The only saving grace with the beater--- I could leave the key in it, and nobody would steal it.

I have arrived at the same conclusion regarding optimum speed---65 mph. I recently traveled 180+ miles (with approximately 90% of those miles being driven on the highway at 65 mph), and I averaged 27 mpg.

I think we can settle this fairly easily if you care to. Post your total miles between fill-ups. I'll post mine as well.

Thumbs up

I purchased my new Camaro on September 15th and drove it home from Tulsa.

I set the cruise at 65 and 70 alternating the whole way.

I ended up at 32.6 mpg for the trip.

Right now, you're claiming twice the gas the mileage some are getting. You might be right and these cars vary a lot based on driving conditions.

It's simple, at your next fill-up, reset the trip meter. Then post the total when the tank is empty. That removes all doubt.

Maybe you posted that already and I missed it.

I dunno. In Texas some of our highways have 80 MPH speed limits and one even has an 85 MPH limit, its mainly our surface roads that have 60 - 65 MPH speed limits (like the one I live off of)... I wouldn't feel comfortable doing 60 - 65 on our freeways here where the speed limit is atleast 10 MPH higher and everything on the road weighs 4 tons or more.

Doing 65 and 70 though I only average 23 - 25 MPG though. This was done before I moved to Texas making trips clean across Atlanta before rush hour began so there was no stop and go. It wasn't fully broken in yet either but... my V6 was lightyears ahead in the fuel mileage department in that aspect.

I don't doubt there's SS's getting 30 MPG and higher...I just doubt that they're the norm.. and by that...I mean the entire population not just camaro6 owners... on average per average driver and car ... I'd say 20 - 26 MPG. I'd say at the most 20% of them are actually consistantly making 30+ MPG.
