Neither do I get the whole 'its more daily drivable' thing. I will dd any sports car including the Camaro if weather permits for it. I don't care if one car has a more stiff ride or not, it's still daily drivable' to me if we had warm year round weather. So if I'm looking for practicality it's a midsize SUV.
One man’s gotta have is another man’s don’t give a $#!¥. People with families that include kids too big for child car seats and too young to drive themselves would probably appreciate the rear seat headroom and legroom in a Challenger a lot more than in a Mustang or Camaro. Especially if it is to be their primary car. Folks in my situation (grown kids out of the house, two adults, 3 vehicles) can afford to say backseat shmackseat and buy a convertible V8 with comical rear seat room and minimal trunk room and keep it moving.

That is why I own a mid size SUV. But the fact remains the Challenger has a much more useable back seat and the visibility is better. I imagine it comes down to the market of potential customers that can only afford 1 vehicle but want both power, room, and functionality. I guess really only the Charger checks all those boxes. It also probably does not help that Dodge marketing is much better for their performance lineup. GM doesn't market anything but their Trucks and SUV's.

That being said, I don't really care what sells more.

Too bad GM didn't have a direct competitor to the Dodge Challenger. You know something like a retro based "Chevelle" model complete with stripes, cowl induction and the LGX/LT1/LT4/LT5 powerplant options.

Yeah, I know. I'm just dreaming.....

Chevrolet SS. It was almost named Chevelle. But it had a 415 hp LS3 and was a pretty good performing car. Volume was limited because it was imported from Australia. Last year was 2017. Guy in my office has one.

Practicality is different for each person. If I wanted a cool car and had to haul kids around all the time I would go with the Challenger, or Charger if they made a manual. Only occasionally will I have someone in my back seat. As long as the passenger in the passenger seat can slide up there is no issue with the back seat. So far all who have sat back there have been 5'9 or less and not big and fat. Anyone over 6' will need to slump down or take a bus.

The Chevelle was a beautiful car. To call the ugly SS a Chevelle would have been blasphemous.

I didn't think too much about the marketing issue figuring if you want a sports car you did your homework. So the majority of people know what's out there, Wrong!
Long story short I attended a local car show of about 70 cars for the first time since buying the ZL1 this past weekend. I couldn't believe the amount of people asking questions or commenting with excitement looking her over for the first time. They were truly unfamiliar with the car and this for the most part form car enthusiasts.

I daily drove Mustangs in suburbs of Chicago from 2004 to to 2011. Year round.

I could put my softball bag, bat, golf clubs and golf shoes all in the trunk of the Mustang and keep them in there all summer and still be able to pick up someone if I had to.

Can't do that in the Camaro. There is your more practical

Thats the experience I have had here in Albuquerque. I was kind of in shock of how many people looked over my car having no idea what it was. There are plenty of 5th gens on the street. Not as many 6th gens. But I have had 2 different people tell me " I didnt know they still made Camaro's"

@martinjm @kinglt1 @mackprivatesteeleeye

Good points, though for me its slightly more practical. I'd just have a midsize or small SUV for errands/daily driving and a sport/muscle car on the side. If I can't afford to own both then midsize SUV it is. Until I can afford a fun car on the side. No way I dd any of those cars in Michigan winters with the potholes/salt/snow/lack of AWD. Would absolutely dd them in a warm state tho.
