So, was this paint sanded to get rid of the orange peel?

No. We do not wetsand OEM paint, nor do we condone it. Most of what we were doing in that section was texture removal. Texture is much finer than orange peel, and the proprietary process to remove it significantly increases clarity...hence the huge improvements in specular reflectance and reflective image quality.

OEM specs. They're about 4lbs/ea lighter than stock. Not a huge difference, but not insignificant, either.

Another update:

ALL carbon fiber looks like this...haziness, sanding marks, swirls, etc. It doesn't matter if it's OEM or aftermarket.

Look at the difference, and in the final photo, you can clearly see all of the individual strands of carbon fiber. This is some of the stuff we're talking about in the upcoming videos. We've filmed the performance mods video, and the paint correction video...just working on editing right now and then they will be published.

Hi Todd,

Great information and I look forward to the upcoming videos.

I am trying to ballpark in my head, the retail pricing for the performance upgrades you installed? Is what I list below, 'close' to the overall price for Parts?

Kooks headers - $1,300
Kooks crossover pipes (Not yet available to public) - $500
Rotofab Intake - $500
Ported throttle body - $350
Upper Pulley upgrade (Metco) - $150
Lower Pulley upgrade (Innovators West) - $650
Tune - $750

Parts $4,200 + Labor

I understand it will vary, shop to shop, region to region, but do you have any kind of rough estimate on what Labor would cost for the above mentioned upgrades?

Again, we all appreciate the time and effort you're putting into this forum.

Thank you.

Yes, it would definitely vary from place to place. For the above items I would budget $1200-$1500 for labor.

Thanks so much Todd for the quick response. That is about what I was thinking.

While it's a big pill to swallow for some, I have to say...paint correction, clear bra (PPF) & ceramic coating is some of the best money you can spend on a ZL1. While there are so many things that are great about these cars, one thing that needs improvement is paint & finish from the factory. With somewhere around $3,000 and the right shop can completely transform the look of these cars! (I am in the Central TX area if anyone needs recommendations.)
