Just finished putting in the RP 5W-30 HPS oil in my car and wow what a difference! The lifters are sooooo much quieter and the RPMs are steady and not bouncing around any more at idle. Prolly gained a few horses and torques!

I will monitor the engine to make sure it doesn't blow up because it's not a Dexos labeled oil. Wish me luck!

Just wondering why you would go against the recommended oil spec?

Just changed the oil in my ZLE and put in Motul's 5w-40 dexos2 oil. "Only" $37 for a 5 quart jug and free shipping, had it in 2 days. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00V5ERDOQ...roduct_details

If your RPMs were bouncing around, you may have had another problem rather than M1 vs. RP. My RPMs on M1, Motul and Valvoline have never bounced around even slightly.

Has anybody else with a non-modded/un-tuned car had any issues with unstable RPMs?

Pros / cons?

I am switching to Amsoil. I have been using Royal Purple for over a decade. Amsoil kick RP's ass in the Youtube channel Project Farm. Very hard to argue for RP after seeing that video.

Mobil1 European formula 0W-40 is a very robust oil with high amounts of phosphorus and zinc, GM's Dexos specs are not to protect you but them from the fed mandated extended emissions warranty requirements.

I live in the Deep South Swamplands of Louisiana
I ran 5w50 AMSOIL in my Demon from day 1 year round.
I plan on changing my ZL1 oil next week car has 9 miles on it.
5w50 AMSOIL is my choice.
Oil is a choice for each owner.
AMSOIL Hands Down a superior oil
I am sticking with the AC Delco Oil Filter.
I changed my rear end oil before I drove this car. It had 4 miles on it when it arrived.
It now has 9 miles on it and changing the oil.
I don’t trust factory line workers.
FYI my 2018 SRT Demon was 2oz low on rear oil when I changed it !
It only had 6 miles on it so go figure.

Placebo effect nonsense. Slightly higher cold viscosity may have quieted the valvetrain slightly

RP consistently ranks near the bottom of standardized testing and UOA comparisons. Oil is almost a religion for many people, they don't care about actual facts.

Castrol Edge, Amsoil, Mobil 1 EP (not standard) are all *proven* - not speculated - to be good. For the money it's hard to beat Castrol

Dexos is more of a mark-up/marketing gimmick and has little to do with real world performance. The drones just repeat what they are told. All the oils mentioned above meet or exceed Euro standards

100% stock here and no RPM bouncing or rough idle. 24k miles and counting. Car is not babied. All running on the factory recommended oil.

Also after 1 1/2 year driving and make over 4300 miles also 7000 km I would now change my oil from mobil1 5w 30 to Ravenol 5w 40
Car use a lot oil 4.2 quart I don't know If my engine is still in a good condition but it has only 9000 miles on the speedo.

But it runs pretty well and it has full bolt on.

Oh, a(nother) resurrected oil thread, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED
Marozl1LE, my car has a built LT1 engine with more power than yours, and it consumes almost zero oil between oil changes, short of the few ounces that ends up in the catch can. Losing 4.2 quarts out of 10 in just 4300 miles, practically 1 quart per 1000 miles is a metric ton of blowby. Are you the original owner who did the initial break-in?

No the car is a us export im from Germany I don't know about the previous owner or break in....

But I know a lot ppl here and in another country's with stock lt4 has a lot of them oil consumption with low mileage and with and without any mods watch corvette or cts-v forum or here for me is that Okey with 0.5 liter consumption at 1000km for this engine with 800hp and with hard driving.
I think newer lt4 or maybe engine's are in better condition has no problem with oil consumption.
I try now 5w 40 and watch out the consumption if this changes or not and if the oil consumption goes higher I know them if i have a problem.

My micky mouse catch can is empty after 5000 km driving also I think I don't has so much blow by.
I think the oil burning is from direct injection and corked oil rings.

I have the car now about 2 years it's still running pretty good but we will see ...
