I think the early v6 Camaros with the LLT engine were more prone the troubles but I wouldn't call them trash. I've read plenty of hard luck stories with v8 too, I often wonder when I read it just blew up what really happened.
Mine is just about to turn 165,000 and other than replacing the serpentine belt and plugs at 90K, no issues so far.

how often was the rear and cooling system serviced? Was the rear oil level checked regularly? Was the engine well maintained? Blocked cats that early usually means too much oil getting into the exhaust from poor quality oil or lack of changing it. Maintenance is the key to keeping a car in good condition.

Just a tip for anyone ever has to replace the v6 chains order the chains from the Cadillac dealer for the 2015 Cadillac cts 3.6l twin turbo vsport. They are much tougher than anything put in the camaro engines.

A Good friend of mine has a 2010 LLT with 286k on the clock and original timing chains. As a matter of fact he still is on his original blend door too lol.

There ya go, there is always 2 sides to everything. Something I've always done on all my cars is run 1 qt high than called for and I've never had any internal engine problems ever. All My LS engine cars ran till 200k or till I sold them without any issues. Time will tell how well my wifes v6 Camaro holds up but so far its been one of the best cars we ever bought. Every place we go someone comments on it or wants to buy it.

The 2010 Camaro I'm talking about had all of the maintenance done when it was supposed to be done:
Oil was changed every 3 - 3.5K Miles
Transmission fluid changed at 60K
Rear end at 90K
Brakes & fluids checked and serviced
Outside of car has been ceramic coated & it gets washed at least monthly. Seats have had leather cleaned and protected.
Car ran hot for a few days. I took it to the dealership: Prince Chevrolet in Albany, Georgia. They check it and said it was the thermostat and replaced the thermostat.
A couple of months later, the head gasket blew; at this point, there is water in the oil pan, water in the exhaust system (catallactic converter) and all these now needs to be replaced. The dealership is going to put their "Camaro/Corvette Specialist Mechanic on my Camaro to complete the repairs
When I got my car back, there were parts missing, the job is shottly done. I drive it for a couple of days and then I have to take it back to the repair shop. They call my wife down there the next morning and had her a soda bottle with some really dirty looking gas. They told my wife that it looked like I had driven through a lake. My wife told them they were full of s__t. She told them there was no way her husband would have ever driven his car throught any size lake . . . if was driven through any size lake someone from the dealership drove it through the lake. I'm glad the mechanic was a Camaro Specialist, I really would hate to know what condition my car would be in if the mechanic didn't know what he was doing!!!
One part of the car that was thrown away was the body support plate. The Camaro Specialist didn't believe this was a part he needed to keep!!!! Several exhaust manifold bolts missing. Specialist didn't believe these were needed either. A frontend alignment was not performed, because the Specialist said they didn't mess with that part therefore the alignment wasn't needed.
It leaves me boggled to think as to the reason any car company would put the thermostat at the back of the engine where you can't get to it
Then with the Antifreeze going into the Catallactic converter it took those out
And for some unknown reason the rear end breaks, not the Half Shafts the Spider Gears

this is a V6 not a V8 This is not a repair i should have to be doing

Chevy just Screwed up the V6 Camaros in my opinion are a piece of Junk.

I've got cars that have less attention done with them with more service.
Pontiac G6 135K no problems basic Maintenance
2015 Cadillac 60K no Problems
1998 GMC Sonoma 250K no Problems Had to replace Motor Mounts
1981 Fiat Spyder 200K Top Leaked no Problems
1984 Pontiac Fiero 2M4 biggest problem Electrical

I've had bad Cars and Good Cars this is just one of the Worst

Looks sharp, so far with our Camaros they have been fairly trouble free. The wifes 15 is near 140k and the only work its needed was regular maintenance. I've done all my own work so far but can no longer do much other than oil changes. I walnut blasted the intake valves @ 85k and they really weren't bad at all. It made zero difference in performance. We do use premium fuel only and add Lucas fuel treatment in every fill up. Seems to have kept any fuel injection troubles away. Car runs like the day we bought it but like all cars some day it will need something big. I changed the rear oil @ 50k and the trans @ 50k & 100k. Antifreeze every 3 years, brake fluid @ 50k.

Years ago I bought a used TA Ws6 with 20k on the clock. Guy only took it to the dealer for service. THEY NEVER CHANGED THE OIL! All they did was add when they took it in for service. Oil was thick as mud! Luckily the engine wasn't ruined but if he had been at least checking his own oil he would have noticed it was never changed. When I go to a shop I ask lots of questions and tell them what I expect, if they get funny about it I move on. Its not always easy to know what was done right or wrong until big trouble starts and then its everything except who worked on it last.
