They aren't making money on the Z/28. Just aren't. Ford isn't making money on the GT350 but every single Mustang GT they sell to those who don't buy the GT350 is cash in the door.
They made money on the Z/28, or at least went into it expecting it to be profitable. They aren't allowed to approve vehicles that aren't projected to be profitable. That got the old GM in trouble.

They should just copy the Daytona Prototype if they are building a mid engine Corvette.

So to clarify what most are thinking; car number 832 with no hash mark is S/C, and #031 the one with a hash mark is auto?

I don't know what the official name of the motors will be but you can bet that LT1 and LT4 are not the only configurations that we will ever see for the new LT V8.

Speaking of sales numbers, has anyone noticed what the hellcats have been doing.... hint, hint,... I'll bet some of the GM execs have noticed....they are selling everything they can build.

I'm wondering how long it will be before we get all the details on this new Z/28 motor. If you look at the 2016 SS Camaro and the performance level this car was brought to and then look at what is in store for the 2017 ZL1 with the LT4.... I'm betting someone learned that the only problem the gen5 Z/28 had was it didn't have enough HP to justify its price point in the line-up and this time they are going to make it right. We will wait a bit for the reveal but the Z/28 is going to be a twin turbo V8, it will be the top tier Camaro in EVERY performance measure. And I suspect just like the modern Porsche and Ferrari owners, anyone that gets a chance to drive one will forget about how great N/A used to be once they feel the torque and sheer power of a good set of twin turbos.

Of course this is all speculation because most of us don't really know anything...
I love this post.

Hmm, very interesting point.

Z28 vs GT350
Z/28 vs GT350R

I'm a big fan of the /. Z28 just seems kind of lame. Z/28 = the real deal.

What ever is going under the hood of this new Z/28, I want one!! I like Jessrayo's twin turbo V8 theory. I'm actually drolling over that possibility although the Ring vid sounded like a NA motor.

A twin turbo Z/28 makes since only if it's shared across another GM platform. The only other Ride would be a new mid engine ZR1. That's were the theory falls down in my opinion. Team Camaro would never get this power plant first i.e. 2018. Unless we see a new Super Vette next year. Not happening IMO.

What ever is in this Z/28 I'm excited about it. Now it's deciding what new Camaro to buy next?? Awesome

Both car's are thought to be NOT supercharged and both ARE manuals.Naturally aspirated or twin turbo is the current speculative thought process now.

I highly doubt it, lol. Honestly the only car I have 0 complaints about, was the 2012 ZL1. Never owned a car that felt so solid, well built. I traded it in for something else. I always told myself I will be back in one if it came back for the 6th Gen.

Z28 or the Z/28 that is the question.
