There is currently a 1,000 cash allowance/rebate to bring the price to 62,795

If they prefer to talk about cup holders, visibility and the perceived (but unverified) notion of greatness to justify their bias, so be it. It's just their opinion. After all, brand loyalty is usually the lens a lot these reviewers look through (which can apply to both sides).

Objectively speaking however, the ZL1 is the better bargain, hands down.

Yes.

A 2018 GT350 with the electronics pack, with GG and estination, is 61,140.

I just did a configuration on Ford's website. I didn't add in anything I thought was BS like stripe package etc. I spec'd it out the way I would want one. I added in the electronics package because I had to choose between that and the convenience package. So that was an extra $3K. If I could have it my way I would have added both packages but that is neither here nor there. And if I really did it my way I would have added in color options. But for the sake of not coming off as being biased I left it alone. MSRP was $61,140. Mind you the ZL1 has a lot of the options as standard that you have to add in on the Shelby. Anyway ZL1 MSRP with M6 trans and not adding in anything that I consider fluff brought the price to $62,795. Adding in GG and destination is a wash so let's leave that out. That makes the ZL1 $1,655 more expensive. And they both would be comparably optioned although the ZL1 would still have more options. Now could I mess around and configure the GT350 to be more expensive? I certainly can. And maybe those were the prices I saw when I looked at them earlier. I definitely saw some brand new GT350s at MSRP without markups coming in higher than Zl1s at other dealerships. That is saying a lot. And even still, an extra $1,655 for a car that is in a completely different universe of performance altogether and offering more options is a hell of a deal. You're paying the same or possibly more for the Shelby while getting much much less. That car in no way can match the ZL1 or even the SS 1LE.

And while this isn't important to me, or even i would say a good portion of buyers..

There's one thing the ZL1 doesn't have, and will never have, and can never have..

"Shelby".

It's just a name, but it's a lot like Yenko was back in the day.."Yenko Camaro" "Shelby Mustang". The name carries prestige (deserved or not) that the ZL1 cannot touch.

If that's your thing then so be it. To me the name "Shelby" means absolutely nothing. I'm not gonna pay more for a car because it has some dude's name on it if it can't keep up with the competitor's car at the same price or less. Prestige to me means nothing when I'm 4 car lengths behind. And it means nothing if simply having someone's name on my car is gonna cost me an extra $10K. That shit is for the birds.

There's a few "Shelby" models that are laughable as well. He was all about making a buck.

I'm tossed between a Mustang and Camaro as I have stated more than once. I hold no fanboy allegiance to either brand. Like German cars as well. Only exception is rice. No way, no how, hell has to freeze over before I go rice. I too have played with the configuration tools on the Ford and GM sites. I'm not a track person but more of a weekend corner carver so all the track stuff is kind of not interesting to me. I agree with the others that the various packages are definitely set up to suck people into options they really don't need in order to get options they want. I also agree that while the Mustang starts off inexpensive enough it only takes some basic options to make the price skyrocket. Comparing the Camaro to the Mustang, at least for me, SS vs GT with a decent amount of options, the Camaro looks like the better deal. I get X-Plan with Ford and GM Supplier discount with GM.. Not sure who is going to bargain more.
That being said, the 5.0 motor issues with Mustang and TC shudder problems with Camaro worry me. I get it that 1000's are sold and mostly the people with problems come to the net, but even still. QC doesn't seem to be what it used to be. What's really scary is the parts procurement problems with both companies. Waiting 6 weeks for a part? No thanks....And even worse still is dealers who deny the problem is there. That's the worst.
Just venting.

i just switched from a 15gtpp to a ss 1le and as much as iv always been a mustang guy I can honestly say the camaro is a way better car, besides the fact it only cost me 2k more then the mustang when i bought it, it's also way more comfortable. the recaros in my mustang weren't made for broad people and i fit great in the camaro, and as far as the visibility complaint it really is a joke I'm 6'1 and 320lbs, I do strongman I'm not a small guy, and I can see and fit way Better in the camaro, all it takes is actually knowing how to set your mirrors its not the rocket science they try to make it out to be

Why do I assume above. Take KBB example of 2013 models: ZL1 and GT500 both standard optioned, and 10,000 miles. The present GT500 price range is 40,509 - 44,544, vs the ZL1 29.992 - 32,795. Original MSRP for these vehicles were very similar. The reviews of the 13 GT500 were not kind yet it continues to hold its value, the GT350s reviews are very good, the same will likely play out with the ZL1 and GT350 models.
What kind of ADM did the Shelby buyer pay? What was it’s out the door cost compared to the ZL1? It’s all relative because the ZL1 was available with nice discounts and were attainable. I had a 13 ZL1 M6 by the way that I got a smoking deal on

Anyway, taking your first statement about the GT350 being priced high for what you get into consideration. That extra cost would take away from any possible resale value advantage. And that's not taking into account the enjoyment value associated with owning and driving the ZL1.
Right. And after you’ve enjoyed your GT350 or ZL1 for 30,000 miles and are out of warranty. Which would you feel comfortable owning?

The Voodoo does not seem built for longevity and will be costly to actually use hard. The ZL1is attainable and relatively inexpensive to DRIVE the wheels off of.

I'll put it like this, if you plan to mod the car and don't care about warranties then the Mustang is the better choice. Especially if forced induction is part of the plan. Those engines are much more responsive to boost than the LT1. And the engine internals are much stronger. However if you do plan to keep the warranty intact and will not be modding the car except for maybe some minor bolt-on stuff then get the SS. Out the box you'll get better everything. So take those thoughts into consideration.
