I'm thinking I probably posted in this thread in the past (to many pages to go through and check) but I can say this. I've put on 25,000 miles since the latest fluid and flush with a new OEM torque converter. And it's been completely fine so far. After 25k trouble free miles I'm starting to wonder it truly was just a fluid related issue

So update:

Went in for a TC flush a couple months ago. It's not a shuddering issue but rather a weird rev up followed by gear change, not smooth at all. Noticed this happened at random times.

So one example goes like this:

Stuck in rush hour traffic so sometimes I lightly tap on the gas... from the beginning of 1st up to the moment before TC changes to 2nd, I notice that it sort of hangs and revs up before computer finally decides to switch to 2nd. During that moment as well the car lurches forward violently, sort of like when you're driving in a manual and you shift quickly and engage the clutch too quickly.

That sounds similar to my Grand Marquis with a 4 speed. It would tend to hang in “neutral” between gears when shifting… shift out if 1st, hang in limbo for a second or two, then shift to 2nd. Wouldn’t have been TC related on that car. Never got a diagnosis for it cause it seemed to work fine. It did that for years before I sold it.

The 1-2 shift on the A8 has always sucked. Mine got a little better after the fluid change but still sucks most of the time.

Really annoying especially if I want to launch. Almost feels like I'm going to rip the tranny right off.

Next time you are at the dealer, you can ask them to check and see if you have the latest transmission calibration. They are always being updated for one reason or another. I dunno, might help? My big complaint is that it slams hard into 2nd gear at light throttle. It seems to be fine when I get into it.

Mine too. An automatic transmission that makes you look like you don't know how to drive a stick shift.

I’m going in tomorrow to fix the trunk button that seems to have stopped working. I’ll ask but knowing them, they’ll likely think I’m some sort of dumbass asking for an update to the TCM on a 2017...and likely not do anything or just tell me why it isn’t necessary.

Well, now I have it.

I started this thread 3 1/2 years ago, and I thought maybe I'd be a lucky one and not have the issue. After 19,200 miles I got it on the way home a few days ago. Definitely no mistaking it for anything else. I have an appointment tomorrow for the triple flush.

Allez, why did you wait so long? Those living in mostly dry states may get away with the original fluid, but Maryland isn't one of them, I guess...

If you're still under warranty, you might as well go for the new torque converter angle after 200 miles on the new fluid, because at this point the flush may not be enough. That, plus a good TCM tune is the ticket to the best A8 experience. It's a great transmission, just needs a little TLC upfront.

The transmission worked perfectly until 3 days ago, so I figured maybe I wouldn't be affected. I'll see how the flush goes.

I just got my 2016 flushed last year and it has been perfect ever since. Well, perfect in terms of the shudder at least...
